Intermediate Fasting

Recommended Posts

I had a gastric bypass several years ago. I managed to lose 140 pounds but never dealt with emotional eating and grazed my way almost back to where I started. I am wondering if the professionals think it would do any harm to use intermediate fasting (ie 2 meals a day) to get back to the results I once had.

Thank you for your input!

IF isn't necessarily about just eating two meals a day, its about eating your daily calorie intake (and some may eat lower than maintenance calories) in a shortened time frame and fasting for a period of time whether its 10, 12, 14 or more hours.

a lot of long-time vets use IF to lose regain, so it should be fine. I don't think it would be a good idea for people within their first few months out of surgery, but someone as far out as you are, it should be fine.

There are a lot of magical properties ascribed to IF, but from a weight loss perspective, it is a convenient way to reduce the amount of calories that you consume in a day, if you don't overcompensate by loading all of your normally consumed calories into that reduced time slot. It's much the same with any of the other popular diets over the years - cut out fats, that's a lot of calories; cut out carbohydrates, that's a lot of calories. It all comes to an end when you learn to adapt and start consuming as many calories as you were before when you were gaining.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
