Post op weeks 3-7 macros / calories?

Recommended Posts

I had vsg 17 days ago. I am feeling great and have been since a few days after my surgery, which scares me a little. I didn't experience much pain other than discomfort when getting up from sitting. I hit or surpassed my liquid and Protein goals every day from day 1.

Also, I have been hungry (not emotionally hungry). I'm on my 3rd week post op diet of pureed foods. I'm logging everything on My Fitness Pal. I am scared I'm eating too many calories. Approx how many calories/ macro % should be my goal at this stage? FYI, I'm 5' 3.5" and currently 276 lbs (313 lbs start).

TIA for your help!

I am day 3 POST SURGERY.
I see so many different instructions about calorie intake and nutritional needs that I am confused.
I was told for two weeks after surgery to have at least 90 grams of Protein daily which I drink in the form of a pre-bought shake that has 160 calories, 1 gram of sugar, 30 grams of protein.
Then I I have Decaf tea and Water I am definitely meeting the 64 ounces of Fluid intake per day

After that I was told to introduce soft foods. I would love to know how many calories you can consume after

we were told not to worry about calories at first - just to focus on getting in our Protein and Fluid requirements. You'll be taking in so little the first few weeks that you don't really need to worry yet about calories - they're going to be pretty low.

I agree. I am only concentrated and tolerating the 64 ounces

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
