I'm scheduled for the sleeve in May and had to do the pilimary blood work which came back that I'm type 2 diabetes now. The Dr won't release me till video conference for a plan of action but can't see me till just before original surgery date as she is booked out on appointments. Has anyone else had this set them back from moving forward ?

I'll be having my surgery on May 19th. I too found out during all the pre testing that I was now in fact Type 2 as well. I had been on the borderline for years until now. Mine came back at 6.7 this time around. Anyway, the nurses and my family doc and surgeon saw the results but didn't address it at all. Now I don't know if that's due to the fact that I'm already on Metformin for Insulin Resistance or maybe because surgery is not far away or maybe a combo of the two. Either way I was never put on any additional medication. They are probably gonna wait and see what happens within the first few weeks, I assume, before making a decision. I'm sure this new info won't prevent you from getting the surgery. If anything it's even more of a reason to get it.

Thank you for the information, I'm lost all the sudden. Mine came back 6.6 but I see my surgeon in 2 days for the scope so I'm going to address as everything is in order but my primary releasing me now. So nervous how this will affect a may 27th date

Good luck! I am anxious to see what they say. I can't imagine it would halt the surgery.

Since WLS is documented to trigger remission in a large percentage of diabetics, it's very unlikely that your recent diagnosis will prevent you from undergoing the surgery. If anything, it gives you more evidence that your WLS is necessary. Remissions are more common for people recently diagnosed with diabetes, as opposed to those who have had the condition for many years, have been taking insulin for extended time, and/or whose diabetes is uncontrolled.

Had to do a diabetes consult and Dr signed off on surgery #2.so, May 26th Hienal hernia surgery and heal 4 weeks then move to next phase the gastric sleeve. Thankful my Dr. agreed that the sleeve with proper diet will take care of the diabetes. So, moving forward.

Glad to hear it. Wonder why they won't just do both at one time like I hear so many others having done?

I was a severe Type 2 diabetic before the WLS. My numbers were always in the high 200's and low 300's on a daily basis. That is the main reason why the docs approved the surgery. Now I am no longer a diabetic. I am almost 9 months post op. After only 2 months post op, I was no longer a diabetic.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
