I am on week 2 and will be on week 3 shortly. I seem to be doing really well with blended foods and haven’t stepped out to eat anything I shouldn’t be. I am getting some more energy which seems like this is the time I should really work out a lot to burn off. Would this be an accurate statement? If so, does anyone wanna share what’s working for them? How many steps are you getting in a day? Biggest question is has anyone stepped out to try anything we shouldn’t be eating? ;)

Congrats on your surgery.

Speak with your medical team regarding your activity levels at this stage. Most encourage you to start back slowly after what is quite a major surgery. Gentle walks around your house, your street, your block depending on your energy levels. Remember, you’re not even supposed to be lifting or carrying anything of weight for the first couple of weeks. I didn’t start back on my treadmill for a month. But I also found my energy would drop very suddenly so I might have felt good for 5 minutes but then I could barely take a step. Listen to your body. It will tell you what your capable of doing within your team’s recommendations.

As to did I break from my program? Nope. Never did. I made the decision I wasn’t going to ruin the opportunity the surgery afforded me. I was going to reassess what I ate, why I ate, when I ate. I did a lot of reading & made a lot of changes. I worked out a plan that worked for me while losing & adjusted it for maintaining. Eating a piece of pizza, cake, chocolate, ... just was not worth jeopardising what I wanted to achieve. One piece soon leads to two, three, four... But that was me. You have to make your own decisions.

Good luck.

yes - I agree - check with your team. Mine allowed walking right away, but I had to wait for four weeks to start most other types of exercise (and eight weeks for strength-training).

and no, I never went off my plan when I was that early out. You're still healing and need to follow your surgeon's instructions.

I’m just a week out from surgery. I am just walking around the house at this point. I have noticed that I can walk around fine and then all of a sudden my energy just plummets and I have sit/rest right away.
It happened once when I was walking around and immediately after walking I went to take a shower.... I had planned to take a nice relaxing long shower but I had to get out right away because the energy drain hit me super hard really suddenly. I haven’t been cleared to do anything other than walk.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
