Calorie intake vs. calorie expenditure

Recommended Posts

I've spent the last two days outside landscaping my front yard. It's been pretty physical work - raking, shoveling etc. I felt great both days with lots of energy. I felt certain that I was drinking enough Water and eating enough calories.

Last night my fingers started cramping and were very painful. Today, I woke up feeling exhausted and I'm definitely taking the day off to rest. I dropped two pounds on the scale over the past two days. I checked my food log and I had eaten over 1200 calories and over 80 grams of Protein. Then I checked my exercise calorie expenditure and it was over 1100 calories.

So the moral of my story is BE CAREFUL. As I've lost weight, I've felt so much more energy and that's allowed me to be very active. Now I know how easy it is to overdo.

Thank you for saying this. I raked up the yard the other day. The next day I couldn't even move. I know that I overdo things now because of my energy level. I have to be more careful from now on. I didn't like how I felt the following day.

I ripped down my mom's 18 foot deck this past week, carried the pieces to the burn pile and dug up all the foundation anchors. I totally get overdoing it....my shoulders are ornery and I stepped in a dead possum that died under there, jumped back and fell on my butt and hurt myself. LOL

But on the other hand..."overdoing it" isn't a crime. It gives us a good metabolic shake up. As long as we're not causing actual injury...some good hard physical labor is just not a bad thing. Stengthens your bones, busts a ton of calories, and makes you feel like Xena Warrior Princess. Our muscles feel ALIVE! And freaking sore! LOL

Look at us, we're unstoppable! Feel the burn. It's ok to!

Stay hydrated, folks:)

what ever calories you consume in a day, if you burn what you consumed , and more you will lose weight.

if you eat more calories than you burn you will gain weight.

I'm not exactly sure if that's exactly correct for gastric bypass surgery like i had. I'm a newbee

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
