Iron levels = Too High

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I just had my first blood test results back after my gastric sleeve which was done on the 19th October 2020. The bloods were taken on 24th Dec 2020. Everything looking great, except the Iron levels which are very high. I'm not taking any iron specific supplements but it is part of my Multivitamin.

Does anyone have any experience of this, should I be worried? I don't feel unwell, have tolerated red meat really well...maybe too well? There is lots of info out there on iron deficiency but not alot the other way round. I'll be seeing my DR on Monday.

Thanks in advance.

depends on how far out of range it is. If it's only slightly out, you may be fine. Your doctor will let you know if it's an issue...

Just in case anyone comes across this in future with similar questions, my DR said totally normal to have raised levels so soon after surgery (inflammation response) and no cause for concern. It can be problematic though so always check with a medical professional.

It could be just the effects of surgery cause surgery & weight loss can cause a lot of our hormones, nutrient levels, etc. to go haywire. But if it is very high & persists yes it can be a problem. Though one that can be simply managed via regularly donating blood.

Hemochromatosis can be an inherited condition or a side effect of other issues. It’s in our family & my brother has it.

Don’t mean to scare you but it is something you should ensure your doctor monitors.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
