I have BCBS PPO and while the appointments for the monthly visits with the dietician for the 6 month supervised weight management is covered, the surgery is not covered.

Because of the codes they used for the surgery.

“surgery CPT codes of 43775 (sleeve gastrectomy), 43645 (sleeve gastric bypass), and 43644 (roux en y) would not be covered if billed with the diagnoses of E66.9 (obesity), E66.01 (morbid obesity), or any BMI Z codes. The representative did say the surgeries would be covered if filed with other diagnosis codes, but we specialize in obesity and morbid obesity and would only file these codes.”

Should I find another doctor?

My comorbidities are GERD, Hypertension, and High Cholesterol

Nope they do not cover it! Same plan as mine - Florida health care excludes it mostly all plans

You can do a cash Payment seems only option that is what I had to do or go to mexico if money is a issue

Hello I have BCBS FL PPO and I'm looking for as much info as possible. They surgery is covered by my insurance and I'm scheduled to do a consult at the end of the month. Were you able to get your surgery?

Yes I was approved by BCBS of Florida. I went to another doctor. They used another code that got me approved.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
