Has anyone had a issue with naps in the middle of the day since the surgery? I find that I am sleepy throughout the day and then at night I can't sleep. Today is the first day that I'm going to try to stay up and not take a nap to see if that helps me sleep tonight. I do no that before the surgery I never took naps in the middle of the day because I was working and never felt sleepy either. When I had my first surgery 7 years ago after the surgery I suffered from insomnia really bad and my doctor recommended melatonin to help me sleep it did help but I find it doesn't help now and maybe it's because of the daytime naps. I just want to sleep through the night and feel rested the next day.

I nap every day and can't sleep at night but I don't think it's because the daytime naps keep me from sleeping. I have both anxiety and depression and I take Ambien for sleeping at night. I had it before the WLS too, though, so I don't think it's WLS-related for me.

I was always a bad sleeper. I’d lay awake for hours, my brain just not switching off, then doing the count down to when I’d have to get up. If I got 5hrs it was a good night.

Post surgery, I nana napped for months. I don’t nap now. I sleep pretty well most of the time now getting in 8 hrs on average.

The nana nap can be enough to affect your night time sleeping ... well at least I used to find that. So I think reducing your afternoon naps may help.

Good luck. Not sleeping well is awful.

You had your surgery on 11/18, making you 13 days out right? At that point I napped a lot too. It was just part of my recovery from surgery. That daytime sleepiness went away shortly after that. Hopefully it's just your body needing down-time to heal.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
