Does cold weather effect a lapband?

Recommended Posts

Sounds like a silly question, but it's very cold tonight in New England. Does the band get effected by extremely cold weather?

I was very tight when I was trying to eat supper and it was just Soup. I usually get looser as the day goes on so I was surprised that I was so tight at supper time.

Please let me know if you've heard anything about cold weather and the band.

Thanks.

Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Sue

It's not your band that is affected by temp changes, it is your stoma. It's common for most of us to be tight in the AMs. Most loosen a bit as the day goes on. I am tight in the AMs and tight in the PMs. The rest of the day I'm good to go.

If I am stuck and nothing is working I can go outside in the summer when it's really hot here in the desert and go for a walk that that takes care of my problem. When it's cold it's a bit of a challenge.

I live in Texas and yesterday I was in a meeting where the air conditioning was on and the room was very cold. I could feel swelling as I sat in the room and figured out it must be the cold air causing the swelling. After the first break, at 10:30, they changed the temp of the room and I noticed the swelling started to go down a little. I have a really bad sense of humor and had to giggle to myself, with this going on, who needs fills, just turn on the a/c before each meal. I logged the expereince in my journal and will continue to monitor this to see if the pattern continues when I am cold.

I live in Michigan and it has been in the 10s here. I haven't been too tight because of cold. I can't eat before like 10 am on all days. Tightness always sways for me.

It's sunny and warm here in Corpus Christi as well! Hard for me to relate, but since banding, I'm ALWAYS cold, regardless of the temperature.

I imagine that it remains around 98.6 degrees inside you

HA! Such a newbie.... I'm not making fun of you, I just think the above comment is adorable.

Hot weather, cold weather, stress, PMS, dehydration, hot foods/drinks, cold foods/drinks... anything can affect your stoma. I swear, THINKING about your stoma can affect your stoma on some days.

~flipping the bird to Wasa, and Aubrie~

I'm in Kansas, and we're looking forward to more ice/snow for the morning drive (and I have a 30 mile commute to work).

Snow... isn't that white stuff that falls from the sky? I thought only bird doo was white and fell from the sky.

Should I mention that I have my windows open and I'm airing out the house? No no no, pro'lly not.

You know, I love AZ, I don't know why I don't MOVE there. Oh, yeah, it's the HEAT. YUCK! I want to move somewhere where the lows get down into the high 40's, low 50's, and the highs are around 70-75. Does that exist? (oh, and did I mention I want SUN, and not so much rain?)

Am I asking too much? I just want it to be good for my stoma...

Not 100% sure but I believe you are referring to Hawaii? I have a friend that lives there and that is what she claims it's like.

I have a question for you. When you go outside in the morning and you start laughing, do your lips break?

When your nose runs does the snot freeze on your upper lip?

If you lick a padlock, would your tongue stick to the padlock?

Have you ever had to dig your car out of a parking space? Driveway? Ditch?

Jus' wondering.

That would be Cape Cod in the summer (it was WONDERFUL for this Tennessee girl - "high humidity" on Cape Cod was bliss to me). You probably don't want to be there for the winter, though.

Lip breakage - check

Frozen snot - check

Tongue stuck to padlock - watch "A Christmas Story" for a great example - check

Digging out car - check (no ditch digging, so far, knock on wood)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
