I had my gastric sleeve surgery this past Wednesday and ever since, I have had such a hard time urinating. I feel like I have to go, but once I sit down on the toilet, it takes a lot of mental effort to get it going. And I never feel like I'm emptying my bladder. I read online that it could have something to do with anesthesia. If you had this issue, how long did it take to go back to normal?

I needed a catheter for over 24 hours after surgery and it took a while to feel normal again after my VSG. I was also told it was the anaesthesia.

I had the exact same problem. I had to be catheterised before I left the hospital and the doctor put me on flomax for 7 days. That worked wonders and I was fine by the time I finished the medicine.

No, I didn't have that issue. I was peeing like a racehorse right away. Good luck with your healing.

My doctor also said that if you’re using that patch for nausea -scopolamine- that it can cause you not to pee. She told me if that happened to stop using the patch.

I did actually have the patch on the day of the surgery and didn't take it off until I got home the next day. I bet that had something to do with it too!

That's great! I felt pretty much back to normal about a week after surgery, thank goodness!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
