Day 2 post-op

Recommended Posts

Hey guys I just had my gastric sleeve done on the 21/10 and I'm able to walk around, go toilet, etc. I barely had any pain (around 2/10 max). The nurses say I need to drink at least 1 litre of Water. They also gave me some Soup and yoghurt, which was fine for me to eat. However it only hurts when I'm drinking water. I can keep it down but there's just slight pain. Has anyone else experienced this?

Also, can anyone give me any tips/advice on what to expect when I go home?

Thanks

When you are drinking Water are you taking small sips? For me taking too large of a sip definitely caused pain right after surgery. Still does now too, but not as painful.

What you are describing sounds about what I went through. Small sips of liquids and make sure you drink plenty of Protein (shakes and broth mainly). Your body will tell you to stop, listen to it. Your head will tell you "that's not enough, eat a little more", but it's wrong. Enjoy your new life Hannah!

I had my surgery on Friday morning. I took the whole next week off, but I think I could have been to work on monday if I had to. I'm behind a desk so not real physical work. If I was logging or working construction it would have been a different story.

Hey I'm about a week and a half out and I had same pain felt like the Water would hit between my breast and felt like it was stuck then would go away my doc said there is still swelling there and to take smaller sips and it's definitely helped but I'm still slightly getting that pain just not as bad.hope this helps good luck

I had pain when sipping Water the first few days and then it got better. I could tolerate sugar free popsicles and sugar free Jello with no problem though. Try varying the temperature of the water to see if that helps. Some people have had better luck with room temperature water rather than ice water.

Take small sips. They gave me medicine cups and I sipped from those. When I went home if I tried to take more than a sip I would be in pain. As the weeks went on it got better. As far as tips and advice just take it one day at a time. No day is the same and give yourself grace during this time. It’s a whole NEW way of living and eating.

I'd also be careful with temperature. Cold or hot might cause a spasm, plus a fresh surgery might be sensitive to temperature more than usual.

Good luck,

Tek

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
