Tylenol pills while still in hospital?

Recommended Posts

Currently in the hospital. Nurse wants me to swallow Tylenol pills but I am terrified is it normal to be given oral pills?

Wait for your Doc.

We are not doctors, we don't know your health situation. We don't know diddly.

If you don't trust the medical professional [nurse] trying to give you Tylenol, then wait for your Doc.

Good luck,

Tek

I’d also suggest waiting to talk to your doctor. But I will say, I am 6 days post op and the nurses also brought me Tylenol to take orally the day after surgery after IV pain med orders were discontinued by my doc. I didn’t take them because they were too difficult to swallow.

Same here. They said they wanted to be sure I could tolerate oral meds before I went home. The first time I tried, it didn't go well. The 2nd time, we crushed the pills and dissolved them in a little liquid and that was fine (although nasty, LOL).

I had to grind up my pills (except capsules and chewables) for the first three months. I'm sure glad that's over!

Update: doc said as long as I cut them in half they are fine. Gave me liquid Tylenol this time

I was given liquid tylenol and used the liquid at home for the first couple of weeks.

I had to take giant purple antibiotic pills in the hospital it went down fine. When I got home I tried breaking them in half and they got stuck in my throat and it wasn’t easy to gulp enough to get them down, after that I just took them whole and had no more problems.

Dr had me taking oral meds in the hospital. He also had me start full size Vitamins on day 1 at home. I was freaked out by the thought, but it all worked well.

Good information. I have a chronic health condition that requires 14 pills per day. I need to ask about this ahead of time.

Yeah I would, I also take a handful everyday and like I mentioned in a earlier post my Dr. was very admit that I crush my pills for the first three months. They even gave me two pill crushers. It was a total drag but I got through it. When I posted on here about it not many people said that was in their instructions. I don't know, I just followed their instructions.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
