Anyone with NASH/hepatic fibrosis

Recommended Posts

So, the biggest reason I had my Loop DS was because I was diagnosed with NASH and hepatic fibrosis in January. They say it's reversible, but I worry a lot since my liver already has scarring. The good news is, my liver enzymes were about double what they are now before surgery, so hopefully it's improving.

My question is for any of you who might have this condition and are farther along in your surgery than me. Did your NASH reverse?

I don't have NASH, but I just wanted to say that it's very common for liver enzyme levels to increase after surgery, but then they normalize (for most of us, anyway) when we're a year or so out. Reason being is that rapid weight loss is really hard on livers...

Thank you, that's good to know. I had hoped they'd be less by now. They're about the same as when I had surgery, but half what they were before.
I did have a follow up appointment with my surgeon today, and he said my liver actually looked pretty good when he was in there. When I had my gallbladder out in January, that surgeon said my liver looked really bad, so my efforts must be helping!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
