NJ December Thread

Hi Eileen 2!

Well in days of yore here on LBT there was a place on the main page, at the top, where the latest half dozen or so posts were shown. I responded to one of them and it brought me here, and everyone was soooo nice! Then I lost them!

A week or so later I went into the area you access by state, and there is very, very seldom anything in New Mexico, so imagine my surprise when there were all the people I spoke with before!! Ooops clicked one too soon and was in New Jersey, not New Mexico! Beannie, one of our now too few, too far between posters, thought it was funny...and she invited me to join the group----which was fitting she was not in Jersey either!!

Been with these great girls ever since, through highs and lows in both weight and life. Could not ask for better people, no matter where we all reside in real life!

Glad to have you with us!

Kat

hey diane!!

this will be my third time going to DR and staying in Punta Cana. it is beautiful there as you can tell i just cant get enough. I have never had any problems at either of the hotels that I have stayed at and my friend that I am going with has been there about 10 times and has never had a problem either. I highly recommend going there. you can find great deals and since it all inclusive you dont have to worry about paying for anything once you get there.

if you have any questions just let me know...im not an expert but i can try

Good Morning Y'all!

Well, I finally made it back again! lol It has been pretty hectic the last few weeks. Tonight we are going to a party with our friends (neighbors) and it is always fun.

I finally got the day off w/o DH and guess what? His van's lights blew a fuse this morning and he didn't have time to fix them, so now I am without a car. I had a ton of plans today too! Bummer.

Eileen 2 - Glad to have you aboard. I posted to this thread a few years back by mistake and have been here ever since. It's a great group of gals and we enjoy each other and support each other. You'll love it here!

Cindy - I keep looking at my closet and thinking about cleaning it, but have decided not to do it on my day off. Then I look at the fridge and say the same thing! I really don't want to work today, although now I will since I am stranded at home w/o my car!

Mandy - You'll have to take pictures when you are finished! I'd love to see your fancy work!

Kat - Are you all healed up now? Hopefully you are finished with all the medical problems, it's soon going to be a new year!

Pat - Where are you? Are you getting ready for your big day?

Jessica - How did you do over the holidays with your new band?

Good Morning Anne, Diane, Darcy, Beanie, Eileen #1, and everyone else that I am missing. I can't think this morning, I am too mad! lol

I'll try to get back later, if not, everyone have a great and safe holiday and I'll see you back in the same place next year!

Catch you all later!

Hey everyone....just one more day in December :) Then back to the drawing board with the watching everything I eat and moving my ARS more. Doesn't take much to put a few pounds back on does it grrrrrrrr

I swear I have problems with receiving the updates on messages posted here. I haven't received anything for a few days and when I pop on people have posted over the weekend. Weird but, typical.

The holidays went well....family can be tough :( but we made it through it all.

Hi Eileen 2 - I'm from Massachusetts and I got to this thread just like Kat. I clicked on the "New Posts" and this group had posted something. I probably asked that familiar question..."Whats a PB?" hahaha. These lovely ladies must of answered it because I stuck around :( I liked the sense of humor, the no fighting and the comfiness of the group. Still do...I don't really float around posting like I used to. Of course lately there has barely been time to post here let alone other threads. Welcome!

Hello everyone else...I hope you enjoyed Christmas and I'm wishing you and yours a Happy New Year! :)

Good Morning and HAPPY NEW YEAR

Its been a busy fast two weeks, it just flew by.

Welcome Eileen.... I'm actually from NJ. When I came to LBT there was only two of us on the NJ board. There wasn't alot of action here so I started a few game threads and it drew folks in....it was fun and this place started hoppin. Then I met Cindy and Beanie and a few others who are not here now but thats how it all started. I'm from Bergen County so I can't help you on support groups.... this is my support group right here. I went to a group at a local hospital but the few people who hogged the session made me sick so I never went back LOL. Congratulations on your surgery, your gonna feel like a million bucks real soon. What sort of plan did your doc put you on for the next few weeks (eating wise).

Anyone going out tonight? Not me, we're staying home, I don't like to go out on amature night... thats when all the amature drunks go out and try to prove something haaaaaaa...yeah I used to be one of those when I was in my 20's. Now I'm an old fart and I prefer to stay home and stuff my face with brownies instead of beer.

Christmas was nice...got an iPod touch.... got some movies in it and about 6 hours of music already LOL FUN FUN FUN, I can't wait to start using it for walks.

New years resolutions ????????????????? guess, go ahead and guess... DUH ME !!! Diet and exercise of couse... oh and to volunteer some where with my DD to teach her to help others.

How about you all ? whats shakin ?

Well kiddo's .... see you NEXT YEAR

Lets....

LOSE THE WEIGHT IN 2008

Betty if I was close, I'd come pick you up and we would shop til we dropped!! Think DH was protecting his pocket book, and sabotaged the van???!!! J/K!

We are actually going out tonight, the first NYE in well over a decade!! Many, many years ago, we frequented this country bar called the Country Palace. The couple who owned it, were Nashville transplants, and they ran a nice place to go dance and drink, but not to excess. They brought in name acts, and had friendships that made in not very uncommon to be sitting listening to the house band, and hear a commotion, and it be some big name (of that time period!) come in, they would sing a set and leave! We saw Charlie Daniels, Cher, Moe Bandy, Tanya Tucker, and Merle Haggard all that way, and we didn't go all that often!! Well the wife, got some sort of lung disease, so they sold out the business, and it went to hell after that! She used to do a Cher imitation that was on the money!!! Cher actually come to several of her shows when she did them! Anyway... the bar was everything from a strip club to a furniture store! New Mexico passed a law making it illegal to smoke in any establishment, so that combined with a double lung transplant----they are having a reunion celebration tonight! All the old house band, and special singers they used to bring in...will all be there. It was reservations only, and sold out within the first day! So Becky, Gary, Rick and I are going tonight!

My Dad began years ago (close to 30) having a yearly NYE party for his employees--he has tons of food, but the special being posole--which is a Mexican type of stew made with pork and hominy. There is no alcohol anymore---since my brother began having alcohol issues, the stopped serving it. So we will all go out there, help them until about 8 and then we will go on to our party!

I am actually looking forward to it!

Betty-I am healing well--my throat is hypersensitive, so I am unable to wear any of my tshirts! It must be scooped or V necked, so as not to rub on it....but that is minor!

We have one more round with my Dad on the 11th. He has the other carotid artery operated on---praying that he does as well with this one as he did the last. Then....I know of no other surgeries awaiting--YEA!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had horrible roads to take him down on the other day to set this up, hoping the roads are improved for the actual surgery itself. We will go down on the 10th, and hopefully home on the 13th.

Jessica have fun!!

Everyone else---be careful if you go anywhere tonight...I am not thrilled with being on the road tonight. Although we were sitting in Chilis last night minding our own business--we had sat in the bar area to see the football games---and then all of a sudden these 3 big Navajos behind us jumped up from the booth and were screaming at this young man out in the restaurant part, flipping him off, and calling him a P*%$y--telling him lets go outside! This guy was with his wife, and child, a brother and his parents! He looked confused but mad as hell, doing this in the restaurant! He got up and come over to them, they were about 4 feet away-------and they were yelling that he pointed at them and made faces. He tried to tell them that no he did not, they were pointing around at the recent remodel of the restaurant, and they were cussing at him, and all the waitresses just stood by big eyed--finally some manager told them all they needed to leave! Just about the time Rick went to say something another man did--said the young guy was enjoying his family time when the drunks took over....he eventually went back to his table, and they escorted the other 3 out. I told Rick I would then be afraid to walk to my car!

So----I guess we can find ourselves in bad situations anywhere anytime!

Oh yeah! My oldest DD got word today she was approved for a return to education scholarship, she tested for it through her company, and they are picking up the tab, not only for tuition, but covering her books, she gets a fuel allocation, and day care compensation as well!!! Her bosses boss brought her the news today! She was actually able to pick up 3 of the classes she wanted in the upcoming Spring semester!

OK, gotta get busy!!

Thank you all for making it another wonderful year of friendship----great big giant (((((hugs))))

See y'all next year!

Kat

Sherry, congratulations on getting to ONEDERLAND!!!! Fabulous!

Mandy, I tackled one closet today LOL!!! Just a lot of sort and toss! I think I need to do that with every drawer, closet, cupboard and cabinet in the house!!!! The painting/decorating make-over sounds cool...love to see some pics when you're done!

Eileen, An ipod touch!!!!! Lucky chickadee! I KNOW that's fun, fun, fun! 'fraid I'm gonna hafta hang with this 30gigger for quite a while...tons of music, movies, music videos, tv shows and I STILL have loads of storage left!!

Betty, do you think Pat went to cancun? or some other vacation spot? When is her big day?

Talkin' about ya Pat, better get back in here! LOL!

Kat, sounds like you're gonna have a great time tonight! Me....I never go anywhere for NYE. :scared: I guess it's not sooooooo bad. DH hates crowds, and was never one for going to party places. We did have a good afternoon today tho'

This afternoon we drove 5 miles down the road to visit the Jamestown settlement museum. So many facinating artifacts! Funny how sometimes you just don't think about the treasures in your own backyard! The fort at Jamestown, the Ships at Jamestown, and just the other day DH and I went for a walk down the main road in colonial Williamsburg (2 miles down the road!) College of William and Mary just across the street from it. Yep, we live in a tourist town. It's great but there is a price to pay....You can't even ATTEMPT to go out to dinner at any restaurant in the summertime (slammed full). But still...I love it here! :)

Jessica, What's the area like away from the AI? Is it safe? I'll be doing an All-Inclusive first week in March. We're going to Cozumel. Little island across from the yucatan peninsula. Although we're at an AI and everything we need/want is there, we like to venture into the town and experience the culture.

Cindy, Ann, Eileen #2, Hope you folks are doing well!

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYBODY!!!!!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
