Questions for those 6 months to a year post-sleeve

Recommended Posts

Tell me what life is like? Are you able to eat more than a half cup, are you still losing or have you regained?

I'm 5 months post sleeve and wondering how things will change over the next 6 months. Would love your insight.

I’ll be 14 months on Monday and have been maintaining for about 4 months now. It took a few months to sort out my maintenance plan which is why I dropped below my goal weight (not that I’m complaining).

Yes, I eat more than half a cup of food. For lunch & dinner I eat 80-100g of Protein & 1/3 cup vegetables or a good cup of shredded lettuce but I do this over 25-50mins. If I try to eat more quickly my restriction kicks in something fierce.

I also eat three Snacks a day. At the moment I’m in the sweet spot with a fast metabolism & I’ve discovered I’ve a very small window of how much I consume to maintain (skip a snack & I lose, eat a little more or have an extra snack & I gain). The snacks will go as my metabolism slows.

I tend to be pretty consistent with the foods I eat & stick to a routine of when I eat to ensure I get in my protein (I aim for 50g for my current weight). I try to avoid sugar, limit carbs to multi & whole grains (no bread, rice or pasta), avoid starchy vegetables, no carbonated drinks (except an occasional soda or tonic water) & a glass of wine or gin about once a month. There are days I feel hungry & days I don’t.

From month 5, I was learning about me, how I needed to live my life, what I could eat (what my tummy could tolerate), what I should eat & putting it into practice. It still takes work every day & it always will for me.

What the next six months will hold for you will depend on how far along you are in your weight loss journey. Be aware that what works for me or others may not work for you. Best advice I was given was to listen to my body. Take a breath. Put your cutlery down. And ask yourself are you really hungry? Do you really need that extra bite?

I’m so glad I had this surgery. I hope you continue to have success & reach all your goals & not just the one on the scales. 😁

I was 9 months post sleeve last week. Depending on the food I can eat more than a cup at a time, bread and bread like foods slide down easy (but I feel rubbish afterwards so don't eat them much). Dense Protein and salad still fills me up with small amounts. My restriction is definitely there, if I make the smart food choices!

I'll be at 6 months in a few weeks, and yes, I can eat more than a 1/2 a cup, but not more than a cup. I'm still losing, but much slower. Our surgeries must have been around the same time. How about you? Can you eat more than 1/2 cup now?

11 months out .. Dropped 80 in 3 months and havent lost or gained a pond since. It is my fault. I eat pretty much the same as I did pre surgery, but not as much. I Also I cut soda and alcohol (for the most part.) My appetite returned to full blast after month 3. I can eat a whole pizza without blinking an eye and very little side effects, I do not make a habit of this however,

It has hit me today, as I sit in my chair at work that I don't have my belly sticking out to where it would hit the desk. Oh and I can cross my legs more comfortably. It amazes me just how much I have loss in inches vs actual pounds, I have lost 24 lbs all together. But I believe in inches all over about 3 inches. I am noticing more energy and have pep to my step. My skin is a lot clearer. My watch band is shorter by 3 notches. the little things are what I am noticing. When I bend over I don't feel out of breath or I am going to fall over ( weeble wobble).
I am having a hard time with my sweet tooth, it is very hard to not want to get some ice cream or chocolate. Candy I can do without. I have no craving really for that, just chocolate and ice cream. I have gone as far as taking Popsicle and putting them in my mixer with almond milk and making like ice cream with that/ sometimes I have added un-flavored protein powder.
I feel better everyday. The energy is great to have with having younger kids and being able to have the energy to keep up. 😃

If anyone has any advice on how to make your stomach feel better after you eat something you shouldn't have or at too fast, I would GREATLY appreciate it!! It's painful on both sides of my abdomen (like to the point I'm doubled over and using a hot water bottle in addition to medicine) and I'm really nauseous (the thought or smell of food is 🤢).
