Good luck with your 3rd consult. There are FB forums for plastic surgery and you can post to see who went where and if they had a good outcome. That usually helps me make a decision or go to get another consult. Make sure whoever you pick has experience with weight loss patients AND is board certified.

This is an old thread :) I had my surgery back in January! Feeling great & loving how it all turned out.

Dr Alex Earle at Pure Plastic Surgery in Miami. He and his team are really awesome.

a lot of people travel - some even go across the country - or out of the country. There are no plastic surgeons in my area who either specialize in massive weight loss patients or have done a truckload of surgeries on them, and I felt that was important. Supposedly plastic surgery on massive weight loss patients is a complicated subspeciality, so I wanted someone who has does them all the time (or better yet, specializes in it). So I had to go to Chicago for that, which fortunately is only a two-hour drive from here. I was OK with that. I figured if I had some complication after I got home that no local MD wanted to deal with, at least I could drive back down there fairly easily.

P.S. those quotes you got were about what I was finding. I was told both here and on another forum to expect about $8K-10K per procedure, with an LBL counting as two procedures (since they do front & back). I found that rung true. That was a couple of years ago, but it sounds like your estimates are in the same ballpark.

Who did you see? How long after your goal weight did you have surgery? I’m past goal (reached normal BMI at 6 months). Now down another 10 lbs. I feel like the excess skin is making me think I can’t just try to maintain.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
