Getting Banded tomorrow (11/30)

Recommended Posts

WTW - I had issues with port pain up until about 7-10 days out. And yes - I was taking Vicodin up until then. Of course, things were a little bit physical for me being at work, but eventually it calmed down. I felt like it was never going to go away. But it will - I promise.

Thanks steph_cn. That helps a lot! When that goes away, I think I'll be just dandy...

Good luck to all those waiting. And big thanks to everyone who's been helping me!

Gas issues, yes! Noises I've never heard before...gas-x and walking seem to help. Also, lots of port site pain...feels like it's gonna just flip right out of there.

No nausea or vomiting (thank goodness) but I'm not sure if that's cuz of the phenegran or what. I havent eaten anything without taking that first and I've been able to take in everything normally.

I can't imagine not having the pain meds for the port site pain, tho. I've read some posts where some people are getting away from the meds. I'm actually calling tomorrow to see if my doc will give me more!

Other than that, everything's been fine. Took a shower today (which really felt good!) and I had a cup of coffee. That was good, too!:(

Glad things went well for you. I was banded on 11/30/07 too. My dr. had told me I would probably spend the night but I did really well and went home. The surgery was at 9:30 a.m. and I was home after an hour drive by 4:30 p.m. Also, the dr. found a hietal hernia and repaired it while he was in there. I am still sore but not taking much pain meds. My upper abdomen is very bruised too. Is yours? As far as gas goes, yes I have had tons of gas. Never heard such noises.. ha I made myself walk each day even if its not very far. The walking does get the gas to moving. Glad to talk to someone who had surgery the same day as I. Take care, Brenda

How much liquid are you taking in Brenda? Are you back at work.

I am on liquids for the first wo weeks. Now, they can be thick liquids. I am trying to make sure I take in at least 8 cups a day. I have to work att. I am supposed to take in 800 calories/day. That is sure not hard to do if you drink any juices since they are fairly high in calories. I am worried about not getting enough Protein these first two weeks. The dr. said not to worry too much about these first two weeks but it seems you need plenty of protein so you will heal properly.

I am not back to work yet. I am planning on going back this Friday which will make it a week off. Good talking to you. Brenda

Brenda, are you not allowed Protein Shakes? The only one I can stand is Slim-Fast low carb. 20 g of Protein.< /p>

Hi Brenda

No bruising on my abdomen but lots of port pain. Deep breaths still hurt, laughing, and coughing.

I havent had any trouble getting in the Protein but tough time with getting all of my Water in. I know I'm not getting enuf because I'm getting leg cramps every now and again.

The gas? Forget about it! My kids have made a game out of deciding what the monster looks like from the sounds that my tummy is making! It's crazy! Gas-x strips for 3 days and still have gas going strong. I'm thankful it's confined to my stomach though.

Anyone back at work having any issues with fatigue at all? I go back next week and am worried about that.

WTW - I was back at work 4 days post-op. Yes - VERY tired. I was moving pretty slowly. I'm trying to think when that let up. It might have been about a week or more post-op.

How is everyone doing? It's been a week and I finally got off the pain meds. Still one more week of liquids and then on to mushies!

Feeling good but tired. Looing forward to solid food. Guess I just miss something substantial. I feel like I can't drink another Protein shake ever again but I know have to.

Havent weighed myself since the surgery. I've been reading a lot on the boards to just stay away from the scales for the first two weeks. I'll weigh before I start the mushies stage.

Have any of you weighed yourselves yet? What's your loss so far?:whoo:

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
