Still having pain in my right side

Recommended Posts

I am a little over 3 weeks out of surgery. The pain on my right side behind the large incision was pretty rough. The third week it started to get a little better. My wife had to have emergency surgery a couple days ago and I've had to pick up the slack with our son.

Not sure if I did too much bending but the pain is much worse now than in the beginning. Is it just muscle pain?

Where excatly is your pain in the right side?

Since I have experience with this, I fear if it might be your gallbladder or your kidneys. The insicion is close to your liver and they flipped that over during surgery. Please pay attention to your stool and urine, if it smells badly, your urine is very yellow despite drinking, and your stool turns pale, and chalky and is very greasy and hard to flush down, go to the doctor.

Also, a gallstone attack or kidney stone attack can be very painfull, it is compared to giving birth, and I testify to that. The attacks often occurs at night. Just wanted to say this, I wished that someone had told me about that. I have never been in such pain before.

It's just a pain right behind the large incision on the right. The first 2 weeks it felt like it was pulling like a stitch or suture. It got better the third week.

I think I bent over too much the last few days and now the pain is sharp when I bend a little or twist too fast.

I’m 3 weeks post op or just a couple of days shy of it and I have an incision on the right side that is still tender to the touch and yes I have some pain behind it but it comes and goes especially when bending or twisting. I think it’s normal. It’s weird it’s that only one incision huh? I’m right handed so maybe my right side of my body is more dominant and working more? IDK just guessing at this point. Hope you feel better soon!

I'm left handed so there goes your theory.

They said that incision on the right is where they pull the stomach out of.

Oh that makes sense then why it hurts more.

I had the same issue after my surgery back in November. I went to my doc and it's basically the site where the surgery was performed. They put a stich in your abdominal muscle to close up that hole then stich the skin. The pulling is from the stich in the stomach muscle

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
