Weight Loss Stall - Feeling Defeated

I am 8 days post op and I have been steadily losing weight since but all of a sudden I have stopped and even gained weight. I am following the diet properly and walking everyday so I don’t understand. I feel defeated and like something is wrong. Advice please?

Nothing is wrong. It’s normal for our bodies to play catch up. I stalled at day 12 for four days and actually went up a pound suddenly this morning I’m down 3 pounds. You’ll see just about everyone on here stalls pretty early on. I was discouraged to but I listened to the veterans advice and kept on doing what I was supposed to do and it starts again. It will start again for you as well. Just because you’re not seeing the number change doesn’t mean your body is not changing and getting a little smaller each day! It’s very exciting. Now, the next time I stall I’m going to try to listen to my own advice lol. Easier said than done, amirite?

You are still recovering from surgery so your weight will likely fluctuate for a few weeks (although overall should be going down). I think as we start using up the glucose in our fat cells it can cause some Fluid retention which causes our weight to go up temporarily. Don't weigh yourself everyday - it's the fastest way to de-motivate yourself if you don't see any movement, or only upwards movement. I "gained" five pounds after surgery but have been slowly losing since then. It's best to pick one day a week for an "official" weigh in (for me it's Monday morning) - don't worry what's happening the other days (easier said than done!).

Stick to your post-op diet, walk as much as you can, and distract yourself by doing other things. Make a list of non-scale victories (NSV) that you can track or look forward to, like fitting into smaller clothes, being able to sit on a bus/subway seat with enough room for another person to sit beside you (and not touch them!), seeing your collarbones again, being able to fit into smaller/former shoe sizes since your feet may have been too big/swollen from years of being overweight (this was a big one for me), being able to wear heels again without being in pain, not needing a seatbelt extender when flying, etc, etc. You can also make a list of "rewards" or future plans to look forward to. Like, when you lose your first 10 or 20 pounds. 50 pounds. 100 pounds. Making it to "onederland" (under 200 pounds). For example, for me, once I hit goal weight (or near it), I'd really like to do a physical challenge that I really couldn't do before because of my weight (and therefore my knee and back problems). So climbing Kilimanjaro and walking the Camino de Santiago in Spain are two bucket list items that I would like to do once I lose the weight (and save the money) to do so. Having a really great makeover (hair, makeup, clothes, everything) is something else I'd like to do.

Another thing to remember is that (I think, for all of us), we didn't gain weight every single day as we were overeating or making poor food choices throughout our lives, it was a gradual, but steady, increase over time. Same with losing weight. It's not going to happen every day in a steady decline. Some days (or weeks! It will happen eventually) the weight may not move at all, or may go up a little. But stick to the plan, try not to fall off the wagon no matter how tempting, and the weight loss will be steady over time. Not every day, but it's happening.

Please don't weigh yourself every day! It's not healthy. It's easy to get depressed and not see your own progress if you weigh yourself every day. Instead, do it once a week. Trust me, it's so much less stressful to do it this way!

      Good Morning,
      I am determined to get in more movement today. Since March 13th, we have been pretty much "at home". I was looking forward to hitting the gym, but alas, that is not to be. So, I will get in at least a 30-minute walk and some sort of online  (youtube) exercising. Anyone have any favorites they would like to recommend for a newcomer, beginner to mid-range?

      hello! This is my first week researching gastric bypass/sleeve. Can y’all please tell me everything you wish you knew from the start? I have read a lot but I feel like there is going to be some surprising disadvantages and I would like to know now. I think right now I am more interested in the sleeve. Can you please tell me why you chose which one you did? With either procedure are you ever allowed to eat rice again like even after a year? Can you drink alcohol ever again? Thank you in advance

      I was in A-Fib several times the week after my surgery. I had been on a beta blocker prior to surgery, but went off it, substituting another BP med, so I could take the stress test. I thought I was dying. Went back on the beta blocker, and the new drug as well. Pulse went back to my normal, under 50. But my BP is still high. Surgery was 3/8. Have a cardiologist appointment 4/8. My surgeon has been of no use. He just says it will go down, when you  lose your  weight.  He didn’t even examine my incisions. Did his job, not interested now.

      We are right there with you.  A lot of time and work waiting for this and  boom.... but no end in sight and the uncertainty is sooo hard.  But,  I do remind myself that people are dying and being in a hospital isn't a safe place to be and I rather be fat and alive than thin and dead.

        So I was in the WalMart the other day waiting in line for my prescription refills and on the shelves are the different braces and canes and aids of all kinds. One of them was a "Coxys Cushion"! I was floored. Since when did they start making those? While I still have a ton and a half of weight to lose before I'll need one of those, I was happy to see it since I've read the threads about bony butt syndrome on here. ((HUGS))

        I have one of those donuts, very uncomfortable :P I ordered a pair of padde thights to see if it helps with it. My body is like, I like to loose fat on the ass and the tighs first. So I have this butt with all bone, and that squiiishy stomach with all the rest of the fat on it😂 and I never had an issue with my ass, I actually quite liked it beeing a little junky in the trunky!

        This is not something I have to worry about - as a pear-shaped gal I have a lot of padding! That said, with age and now weight loss it's not as..firm as it once was and I am afraid of how much will be left back there once all is said and done!
