Is it normal to be at this amount

Recommended Posts

I’m sorry I didn’t know how to title this but for food wise is it normal to be at 1/2 cup to a little more like 5 ounces of food for a meal at 4 months out? How much are you guys taking in and how many months out.

I'm about two months out and can eat around 4-5 oz or half a cup at a time. Slow and chew!

I eat about 1/2 cup each meal as well. I'm almost two months out of my surgery. (my stomach is sleeved btw, it's a part of my surgery)

When I had my sleeve done back in 2017 I was eating a lot more than that at 4 months. Probably a cup to 1.5 cups, although it would depend on what kind of Protein I was eating. I was sticking to all the recommended daily macros/calorie recommendations, mostly eating protein (fish or chicken or tofu) with veggies on the side. Some people can't get to where I was at 4-6 months until 1-2 years after surgery - everyone is different, and handles food differently.

At 3-4 months, I was 3/8-1/2 cup food. Volume is King. My RD guide was:

<1 mo = 1-2 oz = 1/8-1/4 cup (try for 1/8)

1-3 mo = 1/8-1/4 cup (try for 1/8-3/16)

3-6 mo = 1/4 - 1/2 cup (try for 1/4-3/8 cup)

6-12 mo = 1/2-3/4 cup (try for 1/2 cup)

12+ mo = 3/4-1 cup (don't exceed 1 cup for life)

This looks good. I'll probably try something similar now that I've had bypass (it's hard to remember that since what I'm going through now reminds me so much of my post-op days after sleeve). I need to keep reminding myself that my stomach is about the size of my index finger - very different to the sleeve.

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
