Struggling with gas and drinking

Recommended Posts

I’m officially on post op day 7. Although very early on in my journey I’m staring to feel discouraged. I often have sharp but fast fading gas pain in my chest. It happens mostly when I drink any fluids. I’m trying my hardest to drink all my fluids but it’s been tough. I feel healthy and have already lost a good amount of weight! I’m just becoming worried it will be like this forever!?!

Hey, I think we are buddies! I had surgery on 3/2/20. I don't have any advice, kind of in the same boat. I have learned I feel better if drinks aren't too cold and I drink really slow! Good luck👍

The gas pains in my chest is finally getting better. Try peppermint tea to see if that helps you get the gas going out of yout body.

Everyone just be patient every single member here has gone thru it, Slowly the gas and air issues will go away

Also you have to learn to drink without sucking in air, Try this to get started, Fill you mouth with Water and exhaul thru your nose then swallow the water, Sounds weird but taking in less air and learning to eat and drink slowly and without air helps a ton

It becomes second nature a few months out,

Drinking cold Water really hurt in my chest too at first. It has slowly gone away though and as long as I don't gulp my liquids it's all good now.

I watched a YouTube video and this lady recommended activated charcoal tabs. They are actually called Charco Tabs and I found them at Wal-Mart and these helped so much! Nothing else took away the gas pain but these things. I highly recommend

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
