4 weeks out today! I am down about 13 pounds since the day of surgery, plus the 10 I lost during the 3 week pre-op. I have lost 10% of my body weight from my high of 260 last October.

On the upside: I am getting all my Protein in; I'm not hungry; I seem to be getting in to more of a rhythm with this. I have had no pain to speak of.

Downside: I keep getting colds, sore throats, etc. I think my immune system is just really low; I had the flu before surgery, then the surgery, and have not really gotten my strength back. I am hopeful I won't get that coronavirus! I'm still struggling with the liquids; I can get to 50, but getting to 64 is a stretch. I have not been able to significantly increase my exercise (which is just walking). Also, although I was not a heavy drinker, I did enjoy a glass of wine or a beer, and I have to learn how to meet up with friends now that I am not drinking. Seems odd to meet for a glass of Water :)

I'm looking forward to getting healthy, not feeling so run down, increasing my walking especially as the weather gets nicer, and being released to full foods so I can experiment with some different meals that I can share with my family.

How are other February surgery folks doing as we move through the post op phases?

Hi Lisafrommassachusetts,

im 10 days out from my sleeve. I’m also feeling little pain already. Just really struggling with the Protein. I cannot drink the drinks period. I made a spinach/carrot/leak Soup in beef stock I’ve been living on. I’m walking but woke up yesterday with an intense pain in my eyeball. No idea what’s going on there. Going to have to go to the dr. I guess. Overall good just really struggling with the protein. Yes I too have to choke down my chewable vitamins. I’d rather just swallow a Multivitamin like they gave me in the hospital. Looking forward to different meals

Congrats Lisa! I was sleeved 2.26 and down 20 pounds (starting weight 223). I’m still on liquid diet until 3.26 which is so hard but I’m hanging in there!

Wow! Great weight loss! A month on the liquid diet is loooong. I got to eat smooth foods after 10 days, and soft after 20. Good luck!

I found it so much easier to meet the protein goals once I could eat some actual food!

Hi Lesmud, I hope you get to feeling better soon. I can sympathize about the Protein Drinks. It’s just a “no” for me there. My gag reflex has gone back to thinking it’s pregnant! Ugh. Try whirring up the Greek yogurt with one of the Protein rich milks, and some (1/4 c) crushed pineapple, 1/4 c frozen mango chunks, 1/2-1/3 banana, 1 T ground flax and hemp hearts. That should deliver about 30 G protein. Of course, you might have to wait to try this but it is saving me, atm. Take care.

Way to go MorganF! I felt that the liquid diet is really, really, hard, but I got to have some puréed tuna and salmon, and after all that liquid it tasted so delicious and I tolerated it well. Hang in there. 👍🏻

Lisa, sounds like things are going well except for the colds/illness. Hang in there! I am sure it will improved as you get more nutrition in you. I am enjoying walking now about 35 minutes/day after almost a month after RNYGB. Not sure what to tell you about the meeting for a drink...that is a challenge for now. Take care.

I had a hard time with the Protein Shakes - they were all sweet and blech. I ended up switching to flavorless, dissolvable protein (Genepro) and just mixing it in with my Water (and then adding Crystal Light drops). Since one tiny scoop was 30g of protein, it made it a lot easier! I still can't drink the sweet protein drinks. I'm entering my 5th week post-op, so I finally get to do soft foods and more meats. Definitely excited for new flavors!

I felt the exact same way! 16 days of liquids was rough, but finally being able to eat some non-liquid food helped me with continuing to get the liquids in. I'm entering week 5 and just started feeling "hungry" again recently, which seems new and interesting! I had to change up my "eating" schedule to curb this. Now I eat something small about 4 times per day, and that seems to work for me (and allow me to drink 64oz without doing it 30m before, during, or after a meal!).

Hi everyone I can’t believe it’s been 3 weeks. I returned to work 2 weeks ago and overall feel good. By the time I get home from work I can be pretty wiped. I have three girls so I try to get it together for them. I’ve lost 16 pounds since the surgery and I sometimes find I miss a particular meal intensely but I can be satisfied with Water, a Protein Drink or Soup. I’m completely over Jello. I have had moments where I chew something and then spit it out. Now that I can eat soft foods, I had one incident where I couldn’t keep it down so lesson learned. I’m looking forward to trying scrambled eggs tomorrow and building from there.

Hey everyone! this is the beginning of week 3 for me & today is my first day back at work (3-11pm). I have a desk job so I've been feeling fine, although on the way here I was a bit nauseous. I took one of the meds they gave me for nausea at the hospital to feel back to normal. I think my multivitamin may be giving me nausea... guess ill see what happens tomorrow when I take it. Other than that everything's been pretty good. My incisions are healing very nicely- I don't expect to be able to see them by the time I reach my goal weight. I've set a short term goal of reaching 220 pounds. I'm currently at 245.

I am 16 days post op and im still on fluids. Cant manage any soft or puree foods yet. Lost 10 kilos since surgery. Struggle to get all my fluids in but im mostly just on Soup. Ive been back at work for a few days now and by 3pm im exhausted. I guess from not being able to get enough into me. I use tasteless Protein and add it to EVERYTHING. I haven't started any exercise, tried going for walks but cant manage much yet.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
