Weird/Unusual/Unexpected Doctor advice

Recommended Posts

Hello ALL,

So i went in for my 2 week post op appointment today and i got the weirdest advice from my doctor during the appointment. He started by saying "Im sure you don't sunbathe naked outside (i'm a natural golden tan color also doctor is a family friend) but, just so you know if you go outside with just a thin shirt on, put sunscreen on your scars and keep them well covered until they finally fully heal and turn white-ish. During the early healing process if you go tanning or expose your scars to the sun they will permanently have a tan and be a darker color." While i have never heard this before nor have i ever had any scars i thought the advise was unusual. So i gotta know has anyone else gotten any weird, unusual, or unexpected advise about WLS.

yes - scars will darken when exposed to sun. My WLS scars were in areas that are never exposed, but some of my plastic surgery scars ARE (e.g., my arms), so I have to keep those scars covered for one year.

Thanks you guys for the info. so maybe this was a bad example even though it actually happened to me and i do think its weird advice to to tell a naturally tanned person to not sunbathe but maybe i'm weird. SO what i really wanted out of this is to hear some weird unusual unexpected advice that people were given about WLS. Thought the topic would have been fun.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
