Issues with having a Larger body frame

Recommended Posts

Kinda wanted to see if there are Other people who are struggling to see the weight loss because we have a larger frame. I’m 5 foot 10 and I have like a large bone structure and even though I went from 256 pounds before surgery and now I’m 189 I don’t see a change in clothes or a change much elsewhere only like my shoulder and thighs. Anyone else like this?

From 256 pounds to 189 pounds you must be experiencing some change, at the very least your pant size.?

I have a very large frame also, I am also 5 foot 10, my chest is 56. When I was 389 pounds, I was wearing 56 x 32 dress slacks. At my current weight of 365, I am 54 x 32 dress slacks, can probably do 52 x 32. I know from experience that when I am under 300 pounds, say 280 pounds I am at 48 x 32. At my goal weight of 225 I hope to be 40 x 32

did you take "before" pictures? If so, compare them to current pictures. I bet there's a lot more difference than what you're thinking. That's quite a bit of weight.

No way with that lose of pounds you do not see a change - I think we have another case of head game mirror image. I was huge at 377 and just recently i can see the changes in the mirror. Look at old video or photos and then look at yourself now - My feeling is your mind is messing with you!

I was large framed also so you may not meet the BMI index but you still are getting healthy and fit

do side by side pics.. I went from 306 to 152 and still going.. there are days i dont see change either until i put them side by side.. yes my sizes changed, but my mind still sees the "fat" me from time to time... keep track, take measurements.. when you dont see change look at the numbers.. even though i still struggle with compliments.. it will start to be as real as it can be

Definitely work with your therapist on this. A lot may be your perception of your body image. But it is also possible that you are not losing the weight consistently throughout your body yet, but if you stick to the diet you will get there. I know I lose my boobs long before my belly. Arms before legs. Doesn't mean the changes aren't happening and that you won't lose your belly. But I agree with others, you are probably losing more than you realize. That is where the therapist can help you. Do you track measurements? I measure every month on the 1st of the month (surgery was on the 4th of September so it is close to the anniversary day... but I can remember the 1st better). I haven't lost a whole lot of weight in the past few months. I lost a ton the first 2 1/2 months and now I am lucky to lose a pound a week (mind you, I AM close to my goal weight now too). While the scale moved slowly the last couple months... the measurement changes have still been very noticeable. If you aren't taking measurements and tracking, it is harder to "see" the changes. Measurement are how I know I am still making progress despite the lack of pounds shedding. Measure today and start tracking! I put my measurements in the bariastic app. It tells me how many total inches I have lost. It helps a ton. I measure chest, hips, waist, biceps, thighs, and calves. It tells me total inches lost when adding all those areas together, and I can look at the actual measurements if I want to see changes in one part of my body over time.

I haven't lost as much weight as you, but I can definitely understand what you are feeling. I have lost roughly 30lbs and on some days, if I'm not bloated, I feel like maybe there is a bit of a difference.

I squeezed myself into something the other day that I hadn't been able to put on prior and still feel like I could breath.. My husband told me later that he could see the changes at that point (and probably because I am so used to dressing in baggy clothes when at home normally).

I agree with you and others, though, about reaching out to a therapist. It's a big change to go through and you don't want to feel like you've done all this hard work, see a smaller number, but still think you look exactly the same. I am worried myself about still feeling like the 'fat girl' once I have lost the weight, and I think a lot of other people struggle with the same issue as well.

THE head game is so important on this journey it took me a long time to see the differences i am a large framed man at 6ft 2 not as big as i thought however this surgery has changed me for the better i am no longer the big guy i thought of my self as now i am just me as popeye said i am what i am

I totally get your feelings! I have a large body frame as well and I wasn't really seeing a difference in anything other than pant size and my face, neck, shoulders. It wasn't until my husband pointed out side by side pictures to me that I can really notice a difference. I still have a LONG way to go, but I'm so happy with how far I've come. Just remember that this is a marathon, not a sprint, and you will make it to the finish line.

Adding an image for comparison. You'll be able to notice a huge difference with pics like this.

You still have some weight to lose.

for your height you could get to like 150lbs

her normal BMI range is 129-174 - so with a large frame, she'd fall on the high end of that. So she's not too far off...

True. But what my point was is that the OP can weigh more than the 150 lbs that Superman suggested and still be "normal". I weigh that and am 4" shorter than her - and my body fat is 22% (i.e, lean). I really wouldn't look that great if I was 15 or 20 lbs lighter. Meanwhile, my bird-boned mother-in-law, who's the same height as me, looks great at 125-ish and would look downright fat if she weighed 150. Frame size makes a huge difference.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
