Calorie and carb intake

Recommended Posts

I am trying to find out what the target should be. I do personal group training 4-5 days a week which is a combo of core, cardio, and strength training. I was told before to try and stay under 65 grams of carbs and only 1000-1200 calories a day. This seems low with the high intensity of the workouts. Thank you in advance for any input.

That actually sounds about right.

How far out are you from surgery? Are you at you goal weight? I am body building and trail running, am 16 months post vsg and down 38kg (under the goal weight set by my surgeon). I eat around 1000 - 1200 calories and generally maintain my weight, if it starts dropping I ease up on the training and add some extra Protein.

I'm careful not to stretch my sleeve with big meals, and add some extra carbs if I'm trail running hard/hills/more than 10km.

I think it really depends where you are in your weightloss journey

I am 2 years post and 30 lbs short of goal. I have stalled for about 6 months now and have been back to training for the last 2 months. It just seemed really low for calories with the workouts I do. Thank you for your reply

If you’ve reached your goal weight and are maintaining a high degree of athletic activity, I recommend working with a sports nutritionist rather than a bariatrics one. I struggled with endurance for over a year before I realized carbs were no longer my enemy.

if you’re still losing or not yet at goal, I’d be cautious about changing your diet too much unless you’re really struggling with energy.

1000 - 1200 calories seems very low. I can't imagine a healthy long-term diet being less than 1800 calories per day.

The daily calorie intake is 1200-1300, but with intense physical exertion, this, of course, is not enough... although it will definitely faster lead to the desired result)

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
