@lisafrommassachusetts I’m still leading this app lol also any help in getting through this phase?

I'm only one day further out than you! But I will tell you today was a LOT better. The doctor's office told me to forget about the Protein for now and just concentrate on getting the Clear Liquids in. I can't stand the taste of artificial sweeteners, so crystal light does not work for me, and the Water gets pretty old. I have found some success rotating water, herbal tea with a little stevia, sugar free pops, and chicken Bone Broth. I also feel less hungry (or whatever that feeling in my stomach is), maybe because I am better hydrated, and maybe because when they cut out most of my stomach you stop producing the hunger hormone. Who knows. However, I did want to rip my husbands plate away when he made himself some toast....

@lisafrommassachusetts I meant to say learning this app lol yea it’s tough and I’m getting by. The Protein thing has been weighing me down and making sure I’m hydrated for sure. I YouTubed now to make it through the full liquid phase if that helps. My kids had heart shaped jets pizza for dinner and I had chicken Bone Broth lol I’m trying so we shall see. Thanks for helping!!

@lisafrommassachusetts I woke up and felt a little off again. I really need to get out of my head.

The first week is ROUGH. It will get better. Work on your liquids, get a lot of sleep, walk a bit more each day, and read/watch bad (or good!) TV to distract yourself.

You are uncomfortable, probably having a rough time getting in fluids, and went through major surgery. Give yourself some grace ❤️

@angiebear yea I know it’s all in my head. It’s easier said than done and I’m trying my hardest. Tuesday will be 1 week post op. That’s exactly what it is. I keep thinking of the future and thinking I’m going to get sick because I’m not getting enough in. This feeling goes away right?

Absolutely it does. Right now it’s just so much harder to regulate your thoughts because you are exhausted, stressed, and struggling.

Just because “it’s all in your head” doesn’t make it less real. You are smack dab in one of the toughest parts right now. Your job is to get enough liquids in, and it can be pretty dang daunting and all emcompassing. It should get easier, though. I’ll be rooting for you. ❤️

I would love to add that it’s important to keep in mind that your stomach is healing right now. Even though you can’t see it, and on the surface you just have a few small cuts. But inside that major organ was sliced apart, the majority of it removed, and then stitched/stapled back together again. And now it’s expected to still function, when it’s tender and healing. But, like any wound, as it heals it will get less tender and it will be less of a battle to drink and eat.

Framing it this way in my mind really helped me early out when things were especially tough.

Everyone should get a copy of this with our discharge paperwork.

Well, I had my sleeve 2 weeks ago tomorrow. I must say, no regrets! Im alive, and no acid reflux. The most painful part was my stomach contracting for a couple of the days after the surgery. I think it was my stomach growling which was painful due to the surgery I imagine. It seemed to improve a bit once I had the leak test.. the Fluid they have you drink probably helped my empty tiny little banana stomach lol.

I had my DS last Thursday. I was terrified, but I knew it was what I needed to do to live. And turns out It was a piece of cake. I haven't really had any pain. And only had nausea for the 3 days I stayed at the hospital, but nothing to severe. I basically slept the whole time. Now I'm focusing on healing and hopefully I can lose some weight.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
