I’m not “fat enough”

Recommended Posts

I’m in the pre op phase , still getting all my test done, so I don’t have a surgery date just yet... but I spent two years deciding that the sleeve was right for me. For reference I’m 5”3, 200lb ( 255lb at highest, lost that on my own) I’m a type two diabetic and have Intracranial hypertension my doctor approved me right away!!! .. I take about 7 pills a day. I’m sick of all that.. so when I told my mom and spouse what I have planned they said I’m “not fat enough” .... really!!! Who says that!

Read this site about family support - You will get none and everybody has a opinion - You do what you want it is your journey

It is because they don't understand. I started out at 225, 5'6" in Sept. I no longer take my prescriptions.

Some people have supportive families, some people don't. It's your journey and your health. You may just have to decide for yourself what's best for you. Good luck :-)

I heard that too. "Just lose it on your own" was something my mother would have said. But my husband was very supportive and I did it and I'm happy that I did.

Ugh. That is why I kept my plans to myself for as long as I could. Had 3 work friends that knew before my own husband! Told daughter before surgery only because she lives with me. Tokd grown sons about a month after surgery. Most people at work know. My parents, siblings, and other extended family still dont know lol. Anyhow... do what you think is best for you. It is about your health, not their opinions. My husband didnt want me to do it, but now he admits I made the right choice and is proud of my progress.

This surgery is not about being thin--it's about being healthy (although thin is a really nice side effect). It sounds like you definitely have health issues that would be improved or eliminated through surgery.

My question is whether your insurance would cover the surgery with a lower BMI. If that's not an issue for you, then go for it!

My husband was not supportive until I brought him to some pre-surgery meetings and he got that it was about my health.

I didn't tell my mother until a year after and she still says inappropriate things about it that I try to ignore. I don't live near her.

OMG! I’m so tired of people saying that to me! I’m 5’5 and 222.. I carry my weight well so people never really realize I weigh so much. I went to my GI and she told me I don’t need the surgery. I feel like people need to realize it’s about much more than weight!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
