It seems many new bansters are now exercising regularly and I'm wondering how that happened with such ease! I got banded October 5 and am down about 15lbs, mostly from pre-op diet. I didn't exercise much before banding and am finding it really difficult to get motivated to exercise now. What's motivating you guys??

My love for running keeps me moving.

I found that I had to love what I was doing to stay motivated. Perhaps you could try out a few different types of exercise, and find one that you enjoy?

Same here, I really love running. And once you get fit and it no longer feels like torture, you love it even more. Its so worth getting through the initial phase of getting fit enough. Once you're really fit, activity is enjoyable, you WANT to do it.

My love for losing weight!

Studies show that doing cardio for 20 minutes three times a day is actually more beneficial than doing cardio for 1 hour a day. Just think, 20 minutes is nothing, that's a few TV commercials.

When you see the difference on the scale and how fast it moves with exercise you suddenly find motivation you never knew existed!

Don't get me wrong, I hate running, just hate it. But I LOVE what it does to my scales. I'm pretty sure my scale appreciates my efforts too! HA

I started running about 4 or 5 months post op. It took me that long to "find" running and fall in love.

It was a super, super slow shuffle at first, but I was really running by November-ish of 2005.

But did you start running right after being banded? Did you love running before being banded?

This probably isn't directed at me but I'll answer anyway. I always do. HA!

I hated running to the mailbox before banding, I hate running today.

I started walking, then powerwalking, then powerwalking/running, now it's running. It took a LONG time to get up to running any distance. Each day you push yourself just a little harder and before you know it you are running 7 miles.

I was banded last December, I bought my treadmill in January.

I loved running when I was younger, I also love swimming but it doesnt love my hair. I've always been quite sporty, so it wasnt that hard to rekindle my athleticism.

I think the key is finding something that you like to do.

When I was growing up I never liked exercise....hated it hated it hated it, but I did it just because I was always trying to lose weight.

I started going to the gym and found that I love group exercise. I like step aerboics, spinning classes etc. I need the trainer at the front, who is pushing me to move.

Otherwise, if I am doing it on my own, I quit too soon (treadmill, elliptical) bc I get bored.

Once you start, you will find that you feel good when you exercise and it's kind of like a high that you feel. It becomes addicting. I go to the gym and work out every single day. And I love it!!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
