Hi there! I am new to the board, and I am scheduled to have my band put in on November 27 (two days!). I have bought everything I need (hopefully)... and now I am anxious for the surgery. I am very worried about the anesthesia for some reason. I know it is nothing to really worry about, but I've never had surgery before and I'm scared.

I'm very excited about getting the lap band put in. Over the past year I have lost 60 pounds on my own, but I decided to have the band put in for some extra support.

Jenn:rolleyes:

Ranger -- I had never had surgery either and had some of the same concerns. To top it off I had bronchitis the day of the surgery. Anyway the anesthesia was no problem at all for me.

You've already done a lot of work to lose those 60 lbs and that will only make your surgery and recovery easier.

The actual day of the surgery goes by very quickly and you'll be home before you know it. Look at it like this: the anesthesia is the easiest part of the whole process --after all it's the only time you don't have to do a thing or think about a thing--just sleep soundly!:notagree

Good luck and let us know how it went for you.

Hi Jenn! Congrats on the surgery. I felt the same way too. I had never been put to sleep for surgery and was very nervous. I have sleep apnea too, and that made me even more concerned but everything went really well for me. Like Txchloe said, just sleep soundly. The hard part is after you wake up. You'll be sore, but I was really expecting it to be worst than what it was. Just take it easy and follow doctor's instructions. Good luck and I hope you recover quickly.

Hi TXCLLOE, i noticed your BMI is 36. My BMI is the same. I was wondering if your insurance gave you any problems with approving the surgery. I am praying that everything goes smooth for me. I am just beginning the process and I am worried about the insurance coverage. Anyone have any suggestions about what your can do if denied?

Thanks,

sosobizi

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
