Approved and nervous

Recommended Posts

I have been approved by my insurance company. My surgery is scheduled on 12-12. I am getting extremely nervous to the point of wanting to call it off. I dont want to really, but I'm scared. Scared of being on an operating table, scared of not losing weight after and scared of being in pain. Did anyone else feel this way and what did you do to get rid of the feeling. Also, anyone have any suggestions on good high Protein Shakes? How many Protein shakes do you drink a day? I know I am required to get 80-90g of protein per day, is it mostly in the form of shakes?

I'm nervous, too (my surgery date is 11/30). I want it, I want it very much and I've decided that I HAVE to do this. It's a personal decision and you have to make it yourself (along with our Dr's advice). I'm scared speechless (which, if you knew me, you'd understand that) but I'm going through with it anyone.

Avoid the negative posts on this board. Stick with the good stories, because there are more of those than the yucky ones.

My date is 11/30. I'm worried, scared, and want to not do it. But I'm gonna anyway because I'm tired of the alternative. Remember, people only change when it's too hard to stay the same.

Good luck!!:whoo:

I thought I was so fully prepared that it would be a breeze. But then the night before surgery I had a panic attack. I had tears running down my face sitting in pre-op with DH. This is such a huge change. Yes - I was scared. But I would definitely go back and do it again.

As for Protein, I use Slim Fast low carb shakes. They have 20 grams of Protein and actually don't taste half bad. It's the only protein I've tried so far that doesn't have a funky taste that seems to be because of the protein.

Hey there Lillysmom & Worththeweight!

We are all nervous!.. Let's just remember that we are in more danger carrying this extra weight for the rest of our lives.

I started this process 4 years ago and I let the people around me talk me out of it with all the bull of "it's elective", "you can do it on your own", "why take the chance".

Well here I am 4 years later, only about 10 pounds heavier, but still unable to lose the weight and being put on more and more medications for health issues.

I know, I sure as hell wouldn't want to be the joints carrying my weight around, adn they tell me that everyday!

I finally stepped up to the plate and had my consult on 10/24, had my approval from the insurance company by 11/05 (Huh...they obviously thought it was a wise move)...I've now completed my consults and am waiting for a call from scheduling. I'm still hoping for December, but who knows!

Anyway ladies....keep your spirits up....this is a good choice as long as your doctors say it is. I have faith in the medical community in seeing us through this!

Donna :clap2:

Lillysmom,

I too got really freaked out once I was approved and had a surgery date. It happened so quickly once I actually started the process.

The link to my freak out is below, I really appreciated the input I received so instead of repeating it in your thread, I thought I would just give you the link. Hope it is helpful:

Lillysmom,

I was afraid of having a stroke or heart attack.

edie

Edie you are my inspiration!! I see stories of great success as yours and I know I too can do this. You are amazing!! Congrats on achieving such health in one year.

I had fear too and everyone does it is natural. But you have to realize that inspite of being afraid I was more afraid of eating myself to death.

Hello everyone. I just found this website.

My name is Jeannette and I will have the lap band on Dec. 10th. I start my liver shrinking diet tomorrow.:omg: I need lots and lots of help and possitive influence. I have a bit of doubt of my success. I want it so bad and i am going to try so hard. I just know it will be a 24/7 thought process to follow the proper eating/drinking program. I need to talk to others that are going through the same thing.

Please write back.

I just had my band a month abt a month ago. Oct 23rd. I almost backed out the week before. I had gone from Miss Gung Ho, ain't nothing gonna stop me, to I can't do this. Like someone said before what is the alternative? I had done WW, Nurtri-system (yuck!), Slimfast, Isagenix, etc. etc. I had tried everything. I felt like I was eating myself to death. I was on the way to diabetes, heart disease, and all the fun stuff that comes with being Morbidly obese. You have to look inside of you. If YOU feel this is what's right for you, then listen to your heart and do it. Sometimes it is hard to see the big picture. And the best advice I could give you (that I wish someone had given me) is to have realistic expectations. Expect to feel a little tired, expect to feel a little hungry, expect the weight loss to be slow. Just take it one day at a time. Slow and steady wins the race. Hang in there. :whoo:

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
