Approval was fairly quick. The process has been long. I started in March 2019. Needed 12 (2 a month) dietitian visits and monthly dr. visits. After that was completed I was able to attend the seminar in September. I met with the surgeon in the middle of October. Needed the typical test done....EKG, Ultrasound, blood work. I was able to get that done the same week that I met with the surgeon. The test results were quick. I received a call the next week to schedule the surgery.

Hello Everyone,

So today was great! My paper work was submitted to my insurance (Highmark BCBS) and my awesome nurse and medical assistant stated that it could take up to 8 days to hear back or even up to 2wks. If all goes well, I will stay at the tentative date of December 10th if not it will be set for December 31st. I purchased all required Vitamins and some Protein Shake. The dietitian informed me that me next visit will be all about my presurgery diet and will be given a large binder with recipes and to do lists for each week proceeding the surgery! So, as soon as I know you will know! Keeping fingers crossed it will be only a few days and not 2wks. Have a good night! #sleeplessinTennessee

@misskelly81 I am going to request my surgery for 12/16 as well. My insurance approved the surgery and it only took 4 days for the approval! Waiting for them to call me to go back and get my preop instructions.

That is awesome, @JediMom. My papers won't go in until the end of January , after I'm done with all my nutrition appointments. I'm trying to be patient, but it's hard. LOL!

So, I am both excited and scared. I have already packed my suitcase and I made sure I have long gowns or should I say MooMoos to wear while walking up and down the hallway. Is there anything else, other than my personal items I will need? I am contemplating purchasing a binder any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have already purchased, sippy cups, Vitamins, Protein Shakes, shaker bottle and plenty of water! She has me set up for an appt. and informed me to bring my support person and then I will have one more appointment I believe she said is for pre-surgery information. I was so excited all I heard was approved! It was just sent to the insurance yesterday! Wow!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
