Back to work in one week after sleeve possible

Recommended Posts

Hi! I’m just starting this process but curious as to others experience- I work a position where I work 7 days and off 7 days and b/c of this I don’t get vacation or sick leave. Not an active job- think it would be possible to be back 1 week post op? I know it’s variable for many but just wanted to see. Thank you

If you have a desk job, sure. But I must say I was NOT ready to go back for several weeks. You are usually exhausted and adjusting to new routines.

Hello beachdaze, that's my schedule and I was able to have surgery on a Friday and return on a Monday after the week off to make a total of 9 days off to include day of surgery and it was very doable.
Good luck [emoji176]

I had my surgery on the 1st October and was back to work on 10th October. It’s half desk job and part physical like walking up and down, carry things but I made sure not to carry anything too heavy for the first week. Although I did but for seconds at a time and when I say heavy I mean something like 8-12lbs. I thought of it as exercise the first few days since my program only required me to walk.

As long as you’re not on painkillers, driving should be fine.
I went home the next day on just Tylenol.
They gave me a rx for #20 norco 5mg, and I still have 17 of them, lol.

I was walking and driving within a few days of surgery, but my job is fairly physical so I took the whole 2 weeks off.

How much driving were you doing? I do a few hours each trip some days...

I agree. I switched to Tylenol by the 5th day just because I’m a big baby when it comes to pain. But as long as you’re not on any strong medication especially ones that result in dizziness you should be fine. Put some music on and sing along on your trip. If you feel tired at some point, stop somewhere, stretch your legs and stay hydrated. The most important thing is to make sure you get more than enough rest before the trip. I went to Centralia from Seattle (that’s like a 2hr drive) and I was fine. I did sleep a lot once I got there and wasn’t driving back till late the next day. I also moved to a new house over the weekend which 19days post op and I didn’t have any movers. I didn’t lift anything too heavy continuously but I did here and there. Plus going up and down flights of stairs. I was tired and sore but still fine. I listen to my body and I know my limits.

Nothing like what you do.
Basically to/from work and running errands.
Nothing over 20 minutes at a time

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
