Hi im scheduled for surgery in Tijuana 25 Nov. Im traveling from South africa to San Diego airport. Is there anyone here who traveled to tijuana on their own by Taxi/cab. I have to arrange my own transport and im not sure how it works at the border cause i know there is a medical lane but not sure if i will be able to use it? We dont have taxi/cab in south africa so i have no idea how it works and will i be ok getting my own cab at the airport? Will they be able to take me to my hotel in Tijuana?

Can’t help but saw your user name and was wondering if you were a South African - I used to live there before I emigrated to Australia.

Normally who you are having surgery with will pick you up in San Diego. Contact them to see if they do. They would have a better chance of having medical badge. I doubt regular taxis would have medical badges or credentials for that lane. I used BariatricPal and was picked up and returned with no issues.

Who is your Doctor? You usually go through a medical group like Mexico Bariatric Center or The Renew Advantage or one of the other group's but they arrange for you to be picked up at the airport and they take you across the boarder to your hotel and do all the transportation of going to hospital and hotel and return to airport.

They will do it but at extra cost of 100 USD so im trying to see if i can find more information and trying to arrange my own transport that will be alot cheaper

You need to reconsider just biting the bullet and pay the fee especially if it includes all transportation during your stay. Not sure the group you're using but I used Mexico Bariatric Center & you're picked up at airport then taken to hotel 1st night then they pick you up the next morning (after you check out of hotel and must take your belongings with you) to carry you to the hospital where you stay for a couple of nights then they take you back to the hotel where you're there 2 night's then they take you back across the border to airport. It will be well worth the $100. investment plus just the security of using a reputable company that you can trust and know you'll get to where you need to be.

I second the recommendation to just pay the $100. Driving across the border is a huge pain. You've come all this way and will probably be a bundle of nerves and jet lagged. You will be happy for this seamless transportation. All the best. I'm having mine in TJ on November 18th.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
