Stomach Cramps when eating

Recommended Posts

Hi, I am 10 days post op and on Friday the Doctor gave me the go ahead to start phase 2 which I am sure you know is like creamy Soups and eggs etc. Every time I put anything other than Water and my Protein Drinks into my stomach I start to get really bad cramps and I get nauseous. I have started taking my zofran 30 minutes before I try to eat something which has helped with the nausea a bit but I still get really bad stomach cramps even after one bite. Is this normal and has anyone else had this problem? What did they do and when did it stop or get better??

I'm 4 weeks post op and i've had this problem consistently. But they are thinking mine is because of my gallbladder(mine acts up even if I haven't eaten). For you, maybe you need more time on your liquid phase before bringing in foods.

I think you need to call your doctor. But it kinda sounds like you need a big poop.

It shouldn't be that way. Maybe check with your doctor. Are you eating too fast or too much?

fluffy Chix is likely correct, its called Gastrocolonic Reflex- it's the reason you have to visit the Porcelain Palace within a very short time- food in- feces out. And if things aren't going" tickety- boom" down there- a Sad Time is had by all! And I speak sorrowfully from experience: I have very sluggish digestion/ excretion & it is 3-fold
1) skimpy diet without much fiber
2) as a RNY we tend toward the more solid stool
3) I am in the Late Afternoon of Life Span- And as you age your colon along with other things gets sluggish, your rectal muscles are tired and inefficent- and in a quivering voice they say----- H*E*double hockey sticks WE WON'T GO! And I have become bosom buddies with Miralax,Metamucil, M..O.M. Colace and the fearsome Ducolax pills. I already take Magnesium (MagOx) routinely so to avoid Magnesium overload I seldom resort to MagCitrate. And if you have been following my posts (and Thank You for that!) you remember the Milk and Molasses enema of last May, although it is bareable it is NOT something to be desired often. Its hard to maintain a smile and cheery disposition when your "Nether" regions are exploding forth with extreme vim and vigor!

So my surgery anniversary date is on the 24th of this month, but I had my 1-year follow up early with my surgeon this morning (I have another 1-year followup at the hospital on Monday to get my bloodwork and labs done).
Anyhoo...my surgeon was very pleased with my results (and so where the office staff apparently, because 3 of the front desk ladies came by my exam room to give me props/high fives/generally gawk at me).
But get this: he asked if I would be willing to come in for a future photoshoot so that I could be on a poster! And I was all, ummmm....no thanks, LOL.

Today was a really tough day and I turned to food (and a watered down glass of wine). The interesting part was that I felt REALLY full after eating half my go to cheat snack, tortilla chips with cheese. So the GBP is doing its job!

The only way I can tell that I'm losing weight is from the scale and my clothes "getting bigger".
