Help ! ! Do I need to worry?

Recommended Posts

Hi there. 5 days post op. I have no issues with getting my Protein and liquid down, just the opposite I can still take bigger drinks. Is this something to worry about? It makes me wonder if my pouch is bigger? Also I have had no nausea. I am experiencing sharp stabbing pain by my incision sight-it appears when i try to move. I am also experiencing gas pains. How long does the gas pain last?

I think you’re fine. I had no issues post-op either. You’ll start to feel the restriction when you eat solid food. The liquid and puréed stage isn’t going to make you feel very full, but don’t over do it. Measure everything and be sure to get your in Protein and Water.

Gas pain can last up to two weeks, everybody is different. You should feel some relief after your first bowel movement.

Yeah. I had no issues either. I kept asking if they really did anything to me.

I actually do have a bigger pouch and stoma and shorter bypass, but have been able to lose almost all of my weight. It's a tool, but ultimately our food choices along with quantities are what will drive weight loss. And liquids went down like nobody's beeswax. :) Be sure to follow your doc's rec for drinking. Don't drink faster or more than he wants you to per 15 minutes.

I do have some restriction with very dense foods. :)

nope - liquid goes right through you. I could drink more than I thought I should be able to as well - I was told not to worry about it.

I was told liquid won't stretch the pouch since it just zooms through you. It's good you can stay hydrated! I have some occasional sharp pain at the incision sites for maybe like 2 weeks... just the muscle healing up.

21 days Post OP here and can drink all I want.
Just started my stage 3 menu ,I really have felt the change in being able to get down solid food and keep it down.
I was concerned about the same thing you are but like everyone else seems to be normal.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
