Hello! Texas Newbie!

Recommended Posts

Hi there! I was so excited to find this forum!

I was banded on Sept 17th...had my first fill on Nov 2nd and I'm going back for my 2nd fill on Dec 11th. I'm not feeling much of a difference after my first fill....so...

I'm a 34 (ugh...mid 30's! :rolleyes) married mom of 2 and live in the DFW area. I started having weight issues in college and it progressed from there. I was pretty average weight growing up and very athletic...as soon as the athletics stopped the scale started going up. ;)

After much research I knew lap band was for me! So far I'm convinced it was the best decision I've ever made for myself. I'm thrilled with my progress so far and what lies ahead. :) I went back and forth on what surgeon I was going to go with (I had the 6 month waiting period required by my insurance). I made a change the last month and I'm so glad I did. I LOVE my surgeon and his staff.

I feel like I have tons of questions all the time so I'm so happy to be a part of this forum...lots of great information!

Thanks for having me! ;)

Welcome TexasAggie!!

I love this forum too!! I would have been lost if it were not for all of the wonderful people on here sharing their experiences.

I live in McKinney but I went to Houston for my surgery. I will definitely be looking to switch doctors to someone local after my free year of fills is up :)

Welcome!

Don't worry if you don't feel a ton of restriction with only your first fill. It can take several fills before you start approaching the optimal restriction! In my case, I really felt a difference after my third fill.

Congratulations on getting banded!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
