Hello fellow UK banders

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

My name is Steve and I've just joined the forum. I've just had my banding operation (six days ago) in Derby on the NHS. I'm excited at the possibilities the operation offers in terms of life improvements and would welcome any input from members.

Kind regards,

Steve

Hi there Ann,

My first appointment at Derby Royal Infirmary was easy. I met the dietitian and other members of the team who are very friendly. There is information to give you of course, but ask any questions you may have. I don't remember being there that long.

The appointment before your operation (about two weeks) is straightforward. I had a lot of questions to answer about my general health, some blood tests and an ECG. I also saw the anesthetist who explained his role and what would happen. I was there a couple of hours. The staff at Derby are very nice and supportive. Again, you can ask any questions you may have.

All in all, the whole experience at Derby was good. I really do encourage you to follow the pre op diet as it makes the operation easier.

Good luck with your appointment.

Kind regards,

Steve

Hi Steve

Have just been banded on 24th Nov, so i am day two of post op and feel suprisingly very well. Like you i would encourage all on pre op diet to follow it as my surgeon said my liver had shrunk considerably and he knew i had followed the diet.

Best wishes

Lisa

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
