Just getting Started Looking for Doc

Recommended Posts

Hello, I am looking for a highly recommended Doc in Virginia. Not sure if anyone can help me with that? This is all so new to me so not sure what to expect??? My daughter is getting married in June 2008 so not sure if I could actually get started with enough time to lose most of the weight I want about 70lbs? Can anyone tell me what I can expect to have to go through in order to make it all happen? Many thanks!

Hi there, Moongirl. I'm not sure where you are in Virginia, but I had my surgery in DC at George Washington University Hospital. I highly recommend Dr. Brody and his staff and the hospital. Everyone and everything was great. I was banded about seven months ago and down just about 70 pounds. Life is great. As far as what to expect... everyone is different. Also...if you are using insurnace, the requirements are all different too. You will have to contact a surgeon and work with his/her office to determine what you need to do. For example, I had to go to my PCP for six months straight to have documented weight loss attempts prior to submitting to my insurance. Good luck!!!

Hi there!

I'm not sure what part of Virginia you live in, but I am in the Hampton Roads area. Dr. Terracina and Dr. Clark perform gastric bypass and lapband procedures at Sentara Hospital in Hampton, VA. Their office, Weight Loss Surgery Center (WLSC), is in Newport News, VA. They have an excellent reputation and provide a comprehensive education program before surgery and fantastic post-surgery follow-up.

I am very pleased with the services that have been provided at WLSC so far! The office staff, psychologist, and nutritionist are wonderful as well. Everyone really cares about each and every patient and it shows!

Good luck as you embark on your journey!

If you look at the link in my sig you'll see how to research Mexican docs. Really, I titled that wrong, it is great for researching docs in the US as well. Just do your research, you deserve the best possible doctor, right?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
