I don’t want to eat

Recommended Posts

I know I have to, but I don’t feel the slightest pleasure from eating anymore. I either feel full by the third bite, the food doesn’t agree with me or I end up puking cause I ate too fast (even though I thought I was pacing myself). It’s getting discouraging.

I am still going through this too. I'm really trying to embrace it instead of letting it get to me because more than likely, after this "honeymoon" period is over, I'll probably wish I still had this problem.

I literally just said this same thing a few days ago. I get absolutely no pleasure from eating anymore. Almost a necessary evil.

I kind of think of this as a good thing. It has helped me disengage from food emotionally.

enjoy it while it lasts - it will NEVER be easier to lose weight than it will right now, when you're almost never hungry and have no interest in food. All that will come back (hunger & appetite) - and then things will get a LOT more challenging.

You really really need to practice chewing and sipping as thoroughly and as slowly as you can.

Trial and error with things like Water, broth and tea etc.

Like.....room temp fluids makes me gag and nauseous but ice cold or very warm fluids are easy peasy.

Things get better with time. For quite a few months post op, I just didnt want to eat at all because it was such a process. After about 6 months post op, things started to get better. Still dont get a whole lot of pleasure out eating (which is a good thing. food should be nourishment, not comfort or happiness) but have now gotten used to it. It just doesn't bother me like it used too. You'll adjust.

I am 18 months out, 40 kilograms (88lbs) down and I am still uninterested in food. It's distressing to my husband because we used to eat out at restaurants quite a bit, and now there is no point, because I can only have 3 bites or so and then I am full or sick. It's also left me not interested in cooking either. With small taste testings along the way and the cooking smells, I am completely not wanting to eat anything when I have finished cooking. He hates eating by himself.

I don't have an answer, but it's not getting better for me. But I am still losing weight.. About 7kg now from goal.

I heartily wish I could have lost weight without the surgery, I wish I had thought more about what life would be like eating so little, and this was irreversible. Do I have regret? I get a lot of dumping (yes I know that sleeve pts are not supposed to suffer from it... But I do!) and I get a lot of nausea and dry retching. Yuk.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
