Recommended Posts

Today was my pre-op appointment, my surgery is next Wednesday and I was informed that I should have my gallbladder removed at the same time has anyone had this done and are there any complications thank you. And how long was your hospital stay I'm starting to get nervous thank you.

I haven't heard anyone doing that but a lot of weight loss causes you to have issues later. So I guess there was since you having another surgery in the next 6mths.

I've seen so many comments from people who have had to have their gallbladder removed just months after their WLS I started to research why the heck they don't just take it out when they do the WLS. From what I could gather, they don't because "usually" they won't take anything out until it's necessary. However, there also doesn't seem to be any purpose of the gallbladder & if your dr is suggesting to take it out now, he might be saving you a bunch of money in co-pays and max out of pockets doing it now rather than say have it flair up in January, & you're back to $0 on insurance.

Our Doctor doesn’t automatically remove the gallbladder but I do remember one of the consents last week being about the gallbladder and that if it looked like it needed to be removed they would remove it. Same with hiatal hernias. And another thing I can’t remember right now that if they see they will correct

Hi! I got it removed at the time of my surgery. I stayed at the hospital for 3 days, but I think that's just policy here. Everything went smoothly and I do not have to take any special measures with the added procedure, since the diet that's required for gallbladder surgery is actually less restrictive than the sleeve's diet. You might notice some changes in your stool color, but otherwise my recovery seems to be consistent with the loads of comments I read on WLS :)

I had mine out at the same time. I also had scar tissue from a previous surgery that they had to deal with. I was in surgery for like 6 hours and spent 4 days in the hospital. I'm glad they took it because I had a gallstone years ago that finally passed by itself after a week of pain. It was pretty bad. Now I don't have to worry about that happening again!

i wondered why more don’t when it can be an issue later on, but nothing was mentioned to me in my appointment so i guess mine doesn’t do this.

Technically they aren't allowed to remove the gallbladder unless it's diseased(stones, infection etc.). Insurance won't pay for the procedure if it's not necessary even though it'll mean another surgery in the future.

My surgeon told me that he'd only remove mine if it looks diseased when he gets in there. And they have to be sent out for pathology to determine what's wrong with it (stones, infection etc)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
