One month out

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, figured I would give a one month update...

Everything has been great so far. Not much in the way of restriction after the first fill (2 weeks ago) but really not that hungry. I'm not losing as much actual weight right now but am really dropping in size. I figure as long as I keep plugging I'll start losing the weight again before too long.

Heres the stats so far...

Fills: 1

LBs Lost: 48

Shirt Sizes: 5x to now able to wear most 1X comfortably

Pants: 58 (down from 62)

Insulin dosage: Down from about 150 units/day to about 40 units/day

food problems: None so far...some discomfort from chicken because of eating too fast. Pushed the plate away and the pain stopped.

Hope everyone is doing well with thier band thus far. Next fill is the first week of December.

Ben

Congrats Ben, you're doing a sensational job!! You must be noticing a great difference in how you're feeling? The change in insulin dose is brilliant, what a fantastic change to make to your health :clap2:

I'm five weeks out now and I know with the 31lbs I've lost moving just seems so much easier. I had resorted to lots of 'stretchy' clothes so the change there wasn't quite as noticeable, although most of those clothes need to go through a very hot dryer now to be wearable, and some pants have been relegated to the 'donation' box as they simply fall down now :scared: I am now back wearing pants that are properly fitted which were too uncomfortable to wear before.

I've had one fill, next one scheduled for next week. The only food issues I've had was a bite of garlic bread (dumb move) which felt like I'd swallowed a whole orange ... won't be making that mistake again!

Look forward to hearing how things continue for you

Susie

State, I noticed we were banded on the same day and you have already had a fill. I don't go in until the 28th of Nov.Thats over 7 weeks out. How long out from surgery was your fill?

Hi Shar1

I had my first fill 4 weeks post op. From there my surgeon gets me back every two weeks until we get to the 'sweet' spot. I don't think it will take too many more fills though as I'm already feeling some restriction.

I've currently got 5ml in my surgeon put 4.5ml in on operation day. When I go back next week I think I'll get another 0.5ml, and at this point I think that may well be enough. I'm not having trouble eating any foods (except the silly white bread mistake) but my portions are reasonably small. My surgeon likes to get to about 1/2 cup for a meal and I'm currently eating about 3/4 - 1 cup.

Good luck on the 28th! Take it slowly after your fill, I was fine the day of my fill but the next 48 hours seemed to tighten up. I just took it easy with soft foods and gradually moved back to solids over a couple of days. Others seem to be really tight after a fill and then loosen off over a couple of days, so I guess we all have to discover how our band will work for us.

what?! look at you guys, you are doing awesome!! here i am with my measly 12 lbs.

I just had my first fill today and it's as though nothing happened. My 'measly' is smaller than your 'measly': 9 pounds. I hope this isn't a cruel joke...:|

Hey bandster and cQQlgirl don't make me lecture you both!!

You should both be proud of yourselves for your LOSS!! Remember the first weeks are about healing, not about losing, so any loss is a great effort! I don't know about Ben but I have a LONG way to go! I am really glad that my surgeon gave me a 'headstart' by putting some fill in on the table, I'm sure that's been a big contributor to why the scales have been going down for me. Once you guys get some restriction happening you'll be dropping pounds all over the place!

Stay positive, we're in this for the long term! I'm sure there will be times on the journey when you guys will be doing great and I'll be needing you to encourage me along!

I thought the best people to compare notes with were those of you from October. It will be a month Thursday since my surgery. Weight loss is very little, but I'm trying to be happy I haven't gained thru this month; even though I have been eating MUCH less than before I started the pre op diet 5 weeks ago. However, I'm more concerned about the pain in the port area that has returned. I have had a number of shooting pains thru that area especially this week. :paranoid Was FINALLY able kind of sleep on my left side night before last and now am back to really sore again. I'm also pretty swollen at the incision and it feels like a hard fairly large lump - can easily see the protrusion just looking in the mirror. No one else from Oct seems to be mentioning this so I'm just checking in before I call the doctor and have it checked.

Whether you're an Oct bandster or an experienced one I would appreciate feedback on "normal" port pain at this stage. Thanks

txchloe- I would definitely call your doctor about your port area. I know everyonce in while I get a slight ache in port area, but it goes away. Since your pain is really increasing, can't sleep on side, swollen, I would definitely call your doctor just to be safe. I have heard that as some people lose weight they can see the port protruding up a bit. Someone on a post I read yesterday posted something about that. But call your doctor to make sure you are not having any complications. Let us know how it goes. :(

I have lost 35 pounds since being banded on 10/4....and I have had one fill. I do not hvae nay restriction though. Should I ask for another appointment, for another fill? My next one is not scheduled until January.

Also, maybe someone knows how to get the ticker to show up on the bottom of my entry? I cut and paste the codes, but it never works. I'd like to have it here.

Thanks Carrot -- I did call the doctor's office on Wed a.m. The doctor said I should put some ice on it and to call them over the holiday if it either stayed the same or got worse. Well...by Wed night it was much better and is almost completely pain free by today. Not sure what that glitch was that caused the swelling/pain last week but it seems to have passed. It was good to know they actually ENCOURAGED me to call over the holiday if I needed to. Appreciate your reply.

KYGAL- I just copy and paste the actual picture of the ticker. It is much easier and then you don't have to mess with those codes. Also you can update your ticker by just clicking on your ticker once posted in your signature and it will take you to the site. Hope that helps.

TXchloe- glad things are okay.

Wow you did this all in one month? Congratulations! The change in your attire is impressive, but your insulin dosage is worth doing a happy dance for. It will be a wonderful day, which I am betting will be soon where you won't need your insulin. Keep be an inspiration to many.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
