Hi all! So I had the sleeve done in Nov 2015 and due to GERD and some weight regain, I am having my revision to Bypass in 2 weeks. I've started my pre-op diet and was wondering for anyone who was sleeved then revised to bypass..is there anything I should know before surgery? I want to hear any experiences, success stories, regrets, etc? Thanks!

not sure about on this forum (although I'm guessing there are some on here), but there are lots of people who have had a sleeve to bypass revision (mostly due to GERD). Most of them I know of were glad they had it done since it resolved their GERD. Weight loss is quite a bit slower with a revision, though - but it can still be done.

Weight loss is not necessarily slower with a revision, that is dependent on multiple factors Including your weight is at revision and how close to a proper Weight loss diet you are eating. Also a bypass has the added bonus of being malabsorbtive it isn’t just restrictive so that helps the weight to come off.

I had a band to bypass revision in Jan and my weight has come off quicker than when I was first banded

Yeah, I had never heard of it being slower but I dont know personally. I want the acid reflux gone more than anything but I plan on sticking to my diet and hoping for a significant amount of time this weight to come off. Thanks for your response!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
