Hi everyone! I am new here as I mentioned in the subject. I made the decision to seek out Gastric bypass in April. I decided to get it because I have a huge list if medical issues and I'm only 32. I want to see my daughter grow up. I've been dieting and going to the gym and I only have 3 more months before my insurance will approve the surgery. I'm here to learn what I can and any help with the abbreviations used on this site would be appreciated. I'm nervous about surgery but I'm very ready for a real life change.

Hi, and welcome! I had the gastric bypass 2 months ago, and am happy that I chose the bypass. My diabetes is in remission and I'm off meds for it. You're smart to want to learn all you can. And this board is full of wonderful people with great advice. Take care

Thank you! I'm glad your surgery went well. I know it's major. Did your cravings die down?

My motivation was the same as yours. [emoji4] I had been type 2 diabetic, dealing with hypertension, and high cholesterol for 6 years when I made the decision to pursue WLS (2 years ago... my program is long). I wanted to see my wee-lings grow up. I want to grow old with my hubs.

I had RNY just over 2 weeks ago, and I'm already seeing great results. I left hospital off all my diabetes meds, and down to just one blood pressure med. It's astonishing.

I suggest you become a sponge on these boards. Absorb everything you can. I think the more knowledgeable you are going in to surgery, the more successful you'll be. Good luck to you!

Yes! I have no cravings as of yet. I think of eating right now as a "prescription " and I'm just following my doctor's plan. I have no hunger, which surprised me.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
