Anyone else use flinstones vitamins?

Recommended Posts

Flintstones Vitamins are not really optimal for bariatric patients. Try looking in the store here on this site or online for vitamins formulated for people who have had weight loss surgery. Some are once a day, some are two or more- depending on the formula. You will also need calcium citrate for sure and possibly others depending on the Vitamin you select and your own personal needs. Talk to your surgeon for specifics on your case.

Good Luck! :)

My Doctors and nutritionists recommended flinstone Complete twice a day, once in the morning and once at night. Also calcium citrate plus Vitamin D three times a day and Vitamin B12.

I had always heard that flinstone Vitamins are not the best for bariatric folks. I take an intranasel B12 once a week, 2 Multivitamins a day, 2 Calcium a day, 2 Biotin (for hair loss) a day, and 1 Iron (2 hours away from the calcium). If you get your bloodwork done and everything looks good, keep doing what you’re doing. Always listen to your doctor and don’t skip your vitamins!

my Nut said twice a day as well, plus I always want to second guess a recommendation from someone trying to sell you something.

That being said I do have 3 bottles of the chew able tabs from here.

My dietician recommended Flinestones Complete, 1 at a time, 2 times daily. Those are supposed to be taken separately from my Calcium (2 times a day, with meals) and My D3 is 2 pills a day and they never said to split them up so I do them at one time. I give myself B12 shots once a month.

Well, that's what I've done so far and what they've recommended.

My nut said Flintstones Complete 2 times a day, Calcium (500 mg, from Tums first three months, from calcium citrate after that) 3 times a day, Vitamin D once a day, with calcium, and Vitamin B12 once a week at 5000 IU dose.

Flintstones are still recommended by some bariatric surgeons, but they aren't the best option. The American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons does not recommend multivitamins that are formulated for children. Those formulated specifically for bariatric patients are a good choice, but if you want a standard, readily available Vitamin, a lot of bariatric patients have good luck with Centrum (or a generic equivalent), too. Any multi that meets the ASMBS requirements is fine:

This above is what i was referring to...

However, if that is the recommendation of your team i think you should listen to them.

My surgeon isn't "selling" anything, to be clear.

He actually requires proof of purchase of at least one month of Vitamins that meet ASMBS guidelines as a pre surgery requirement. (Bought anywhere.)

I mentioned this site as it is a start for a search as well as anything online. Just easy is all.

Guess you can (and should) question all kinds of sources...

My surgeon recommended the Flintstones Vitamins and that's what I take (the chewables with iron) - I tried the Celebrate ones, but they made me gag and very nauseous. I was told that as long as it has the 18 mg of Iron and 400 mcg of folic acid, then any multi is fine.

I also take calcium citrate soft chews - one at lunch time and one at dinner time.

Biotin once daily.

B12 1 ml sub-lingual in the morning.

Prescription Vit D 50,000 units once a week.

At my 6 week blood work, all my levels were great - if that changes, I'll look at doing something else. I don't have more blood work until 6 months post-op.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
