I lost 16 lbs the first month and I started at over 300 lbs. I've been hanging out on bariatric surgery boards for 5-6 years, and I'd say most people lose in the 15-25 lb range the first month (some more - some less - but I'd say most lose within that range). At 10 days out, you're still coming off those first few days when your weight would have been higher than you went in for surgery because of all the IV fluids they pumped into you...

as long as you stick to your program, the weight will come off...

Yes. You just had surgery. You are likely to be retaining Water from getting IV fluids and your body just doesn't even know what's going on. You'll probably see a drop on the scale soon but at 3 or 4 weeks you'll see another stall. My advice is to stay off the scale and focus on your Fluid and Protein intake. You have to hit your goals no matter what the numbers on the scale are so that can be a distraction.

Just focus on healing at this point. Your body is adjusting to just having undergone major surgery, IV fluids, etc. Just stay off the scale for the first month and make sure you're getting in your 60 g of Protein, 64 oz of fluids.

Agreed...same! Focus on healing, and sticking to the plan. Do not overwhelm yourself with worry and the scale...it will all come in its due time!

It took me 10 days to get to my pre-surgery weight due to Water retention. You are not alone friend, trust me.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
