Lapband slipped? Eroded?? Help needed!

Recommended Posts

So I started my weight loss journey at 144 kgs, and came to 95 10 years ago, since then i have been very active and maintained it, but in the last two years, i went to 110, but brought my self down to 105, from here i literally threw up any solid food or even liquid, i try to push food down with Water and for the last couple of years living like this. the country i live in now we don't have specialists for biatrics so i cannot get this checked. But i feel that either my band is too tight or it has slipped, i have lost 10 kgs in the last year, 5 kgs in the last 2 months, and this is unexplained weight loss, i am eating everything, choclates, burgers, regular food, but i feel i cannot keep anything in, in my mind i am eating and keeping it in, but it doesn't explain the weight loss, yes i throw up (planned) a lot, i feel i am stuck and don't know what to do..what steps can i take to fix this?

It sounds as though you are doing all the things with your band that you are not supposed to.

Drinking and eating together causes issues. Trying to push food through with liquid is problematic. Eating foods that don't work with your band and then throwing them up is not good and could have caused your band to slip.

Which country do you live in and why don't you have access to a specialist? Where did you get your band done?

It sounds as though you need xrays/tests to check the position of your band. If it is still in place and not eroded then you probably need some Fluid taken out. Then you need to go back to eating the way you did in the beginning. Eat slowly, don't drink with meals or for 20 - 30 minutes afterwards. Make sure you chew your food really well. Choose less dense textures if dense foods are a problem.

If your band has slipped or eroded then you are going to need surgery to remove or reposition it.

Finally yesterday i found a band doctor.. Who examined me.. He took out the liquid only 2 cc of omnipaque in the band.. My symptoms were muxh better but he suspected aesophegus dilitation and now i realize my food a d Water was getting stuck in my aesophagus and not band.. It is still getting stuck but a lot lot better then before.. I had a barrium swallo test for an hour today... And now i will get a endoscopy done tommorow.. Nervous of whats going on.. He suggested me to take out the band and go for gastric bypass or mini bypass even though i am below my target weight .... Confused and scaredif my esphagus is perm damaged or worst i have barrets? Or some thing sinister? Also cost for revision is very expensive for me right now and no insurance.

Barrium swallow shows slight esophagus dilitation except for that no band erosion or any band slippage..no liquid now.. Syspotoms have improved .. Gained a kilo or 2 because of Water and food entering the body normally.. I dont know if i should get sleeve or bypass after this and get band removed.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
