I had GERD and had sleeve surgery 4 months ago. Now I don't have GERD anymore. Hooray!

No. You can still have the sleeve. I just had the endoscopy done a few weeks ago and they also discovered I had GERD and an ulcer as well and both the GI doctor and the Bariatric DR told me that if anything, the sleeve surgery might help the GERD go away after I lose weight. I just hear that the reflux can be a little worse right after surgery in some people, but that’s temporary.

@elegant1

direct answer is no "they" say reflux/ gerd can get worse after sleeve. There are

others ( @GradyCat for example) reflux decreases/or is gone.

Some OP do develop reflux after sleeve. - . doc will prescribe PPI and then reflux frequently disappears after periods of time.

many OP that have bad gerd/reflux pre-op , sleeve can make it worse.☹️

i never had/acquired gerd/reflux pre- or post sleeve, No problems, still cute as

a button 7+ years later.🤣

if you still have concerns which WLS you should have, talk to your doc. But in the

long run, it's your decision - good luck

I have gerd also but i have been told by alot of doctors that they would recommend the bypass over the sleeve because that is what the bypass was to do before they relized it also helped people also loose weight i did alot of studing for past 12 years on both before i desided bypass was best for me but it also is something you would have to deside cause if the do the sleeve and if the gerd dont fix they can fix it to the bypass but thats just more surgery time. Just letting you know

      I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

      I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

        That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

      Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
