Did anyone stop taking their medications early? I stoped all of mine...

Recommended Posts

My worry is now that I might have ulcers because one of these ones was for acid reflux but I haven’t been having any. Anyone have any suggestions? The pharmacist things I should start it up again. It’s called lansoprazole? Any advice would be helpful if you stopped this medication.

Why did you stop? How far out are you? My surgeon just put me on Pantoprazole and I don't plan on stopping it as that can cause rebound reflux.

I spoke with my surgeon before I stopped taking my PPI. I also stopped early because of the research again the long term use of these meds. I did not have reflux or GERD prior so it was merely routine or precautionary in my case.

Speaking with your Team is the best choice.

Can I ask how much you take? I'm 5 weeks out from surgery and I've been back of the same med. I'm still having trouble with my stomach feeling upset at times.

I take 40 in the am and night. I couldn't take it for 13 days after surgery and I'm trying to be consistent in taking it faithfully on an empty stomach. Still have some gurgling in my tummy.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
