Oh Connue, there have been so many recently. Odd, they routinely order ursadiol after surgery to prevent it, either it's not working or it is even more prevalent than surgeons' have thought

I haven't needed it, but as it is not an uncommon problem during the rapid weight loss phase, I would expect that most would have it done by their original bariatric surgeon as that is where most will turn for help with any apparently related problems during that time. However, it can be done by most any general surgeon if their original bariatric surgeon isn't local or otherwise available.

Connie,

I had my gastric bypass done 10 years ago and 3 years ago I started having pain in my gallbladder. It's stones, but they weren't a problem then, pain would be just on and off. Lately, the pain has been constant so my primary care doctor sent me to a vascular surgeon. I have an ultrasound scheduled for Monday morning. Most likely, I'll have my gallbladder removed quite soon. Not looking forward to it, but I don't believe this will get any better with time, but worse.

In fact, I joined this forum today to read what others that have GBP surgery have gone through will gallbladder removal. (Hello everyone!)

You might want to call the doctor who performed your GBP surgery or otherwise your primary care physician. Get things checked out. Good luck!

Had my GB out 35 years ago last mobth, back,in the Bad Old Days when everything was open incision. In fact when I had my pre-surgical last year I told my surgeon I would rather have an open than no WLS surgery at all. He looked at me with an amazed look, said "Do you know how long. it takes to heal an open incision?" Flipped up my shirt, showed him my Right Paramedian, 2 inches above, 3 inches below waist. He laughed and said " Point taken, but I almost always do laparoscopic" and I have 7 little scars, at 7 months, you would be hard pressed to find, well you still can see the top one a little, where he put the liver retractor, because I don't have stretch marks there to cover it up. But they are sikvery, pretty , and I wish he could give lessons to the doctors that sewed up other places on me, some of them are super- evident.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
