Twisted sleeve anatomy

Recommended Posts

Had upper scope today. He said there was a slight twisting but didn't seemed concerned. So I was looking at the papers. Everything looked good but there was a slight twist in the sleeve anatomy. The Antrum looked normal. They took a bx from there to to hp testing. Then the last line said diagnostic laparoscopy may need to be considered to see if mild twist of anatomy can be addressed.

No clue what any of that means. And they aren't very discriptive. If anyone knows. Help.

Hi - I did a little googling and found that it is a type of stricture in your stomach tube. Sounds like your may be minor? Do you have vomiting issues?

An example in the most legible language I could find from a website (https://www.southwestsurgery.com.au/sleeve-gastrectomy/complications-of-laparoscopic-sleeve-gastrectomy) discussion possible complications:

"Stricture (narrowing) of the gastric tube

Stricture formation (narrowing) can occur in sleeve patients, and most commonly presents itself in a later phase after the surgery. Common symptoms include food intolerance, or nausea and vomiting. Narrowing can occur due to removing too much of the stomach, twisting or kinking at the angle of the stomach (incisura) or scarring related to inflammation. Endoscopic dilation of the narrowing with a balloon tend to help the patients however, this often need to be repeated. In extreme cases reoperation is needed often involving performing a gastric bypass operation. Prevention is the key to eliminate this problem with proper surgical technique, leaving ample of room near the angle of the stomach, proper use of the sizing tube, and the prevention of kinks or twist in the gastric sleeve by suturing the omentum back to the entire staple line."

Are you drinking with your meals...I was told nothing to drink 30 min prior and nothing 30 min after was what I was told. I know every plan is diff depending on your surgeon but that is what I was told.

I was told that. But I have to get a sip while eating. Don't think that would twist my sleeve though.

Oh no I didn’t mean that that was why it twisted. I was just thinking about the drinking while eating part. That was a hard hurdle for me. I’ve always drank something after every bite so when I was told I couldn’t it was difficult.

What did the surgeon say about what he was going to do about the twisted sleeve?

He came in and said it was slightly twisted. Acted like it was no big deal. But on the discharge papers it said..... diagnostic laparoscopy may need to be considered to see if mild twist of anatomy can be addressed.

So idk what to do or think. Maybe see what the biopsy says.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
